S40 Battery Life?

I just bought this Siemens S40 phone. I have T-mobile service. Battery drains very fast. I can only use it for maximum 3 days on stand by. Do you think it is normal? Do you think I should turn off the networks (900/1800) that are not used in USA?
Thanks guys for any help.

Have you tried allowing your battery to go dead first? It usually takes at least one cycle of full charge to dead before reaching a battery's full capacity. Try that first and let us know how it goes.
Other factors that affect battery performance are how often you use your phone and how often you are in areas without a signal. As far as I know, S40s do not power down in areas without a signal. On the contrary, they may even search harder and thus the shorter battery life.

Same problem with my phone. 3 day standby and that's it. Got the phone a year ago and it's been like that since day one.

turning of 1800/900 will help but minimally. 3 days is the battery life if you really want more turn off the back light too.

ya, that's normal... oddly when i went to Europe, battery life almost doubled..
I think the GSM network in NA is still in its infant stages so the phone has to be in high power mode all the time wasting battery life...

I have found that my S40 will last about 6 days on standby if I am in an area with decent signal. If the phone is constantly "searching" the battery dies significantly faster. If you de-select the 1800 and 900 networks you will save a slight bit of battery power, but you will also notice that after losing signal you will regain it much faster if the phone does not have to scan all three networks. Keep your eye out on e-bay. You may be able to pick up a spare battery for cheap.

I got 3 days on my as well. Generally a nice phone, my backup phone when I go clubbin'. I just dont like the battery, nor the rubbery buttons. When I get a new phone, I always break in the battery(s) first by charging it completely and then draining it completely. I do this cycle about three times, then I just charge it when I get home. This way it should last longer. I made sure to do that with the S 40 too, but the battery is still like yours, 3 days.
