6230 vs Razr in RF Dept.

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

My 6230 (unlocked on ATT Blue) is starting to get a little scratchy in the speaker and I am also tired of the non-adjustable backlight timer setting so am thinking of getting the razr unlocked from 3rd party. Trouble is, right now my 6230 and my 3595 get 2 or 3 bars max at my office and sometimes no service. I am in a predominent blue area and my 6230 cannot find an orange tower at my office. Anyway, will the razr perform as well or better than the 6230. I'm concerned because since I will buy 3rd party unlocked ( don't want to switch to orange) I would have to pay a hefty restock charge if I sent it back "not defective" because of the fringe area I am in.

RAZR is on par with 6230.

However, why would you go from a good phone w/ EDGE to a phone w/o EDGE.

Take a look at the v635 or some of the other nokias (66xx)

Thanks, Actually I found I use my phone as a "phone only"m and my main concern would be RF and clamshell.

two great mobiles. Statistically they are a draw in the RF department.

I have used both and I think, Razr is a little better than the 6230. 6230 also gets good reception. But, there was one spot on my way from home to work, where it would drop calls, whereas the Razr never drops call. RF on Razr is just unbelievable. I only used the 6230 for 11 days as I exchanged it because I did not like the tiny and crappy display on 6230. I did not exchange it for RF performance though. Very happy with the RF performance of Razr.

How would you rate the volume (both earpiece, ringer & speakerphone of the v3 compared to 6230

many people have complained about the earpiece volume with the earlier razr's but my earpiece volume is on 4-5-or-6 depending on how loud of an area iam in, which aint bad considering the loudest volume is 7. as for the nokia couldnt help you there. but i can vouch for the razr its sweet.

Once again, not much difference. I do think, Razr is a tad better. I had no problem with the earpiece volume of the 6230.

I have the razr, the girlfriend has the 6230b. The razr is slightly better in the RF department. Most noticeable is that it sounds better to the caller on the other end of the line. I have tested this out by calling my family on the vonage setup I put together for them back home. They are using the Uniden Tru 5.8ghz handsets and the vonage + Uniden combo sounds better than most landlines I have heard, so it's a good baseline for judging incoming call quality.

I had to edit the earpiece volume gain file on my razr to make it comparable to the nokia. I set it to gain level 4. Normally I will use the phone on 4-6 volume level, and up to 7 if it's really noisey surroundings. I prefer the overall sound of the razr earpiece to the nokia.

Overall I like the razr strictly as a phone. I will never take pictures or play mp3's. I also like that, with the help of motomodders, you can hex edit the thing until the cows come home.

I had the complete opposite experience. I had both phones, and the Razr wasn't as good, in fact, the Nokia gave me reception in areas the Razr didn't.

I just picked up a silver razr today, this morning. I love the phone but the earpiece on mine seems really quiet. coming from a phone where I could **** near use it as a speakerphone when the volume was all the way up, my razr sucks! I have it full volume and it's low. My sisters old 720 for comparison is much louder and it's not all the way up at all. People can hear me fine. Maybe mine is bunk? I wanted a black razr but they were out, maybe I'll get it swapped next week when they get more in and see what if another one is any better. I'm really hoping I just happened to get a junk one cause I really like the phone. love the keypad, love the display, I'm scared i'll break it but I really dig it.

I said this in another thread, so I'll just rehash it here. Here's the good and the bad. It is the phone; all the Vxxx series phones (including the RAZR), the Mpx-220, and just about every recent Motorola phone suffer this problem. You can seem edit the phone to increase the earpiece volume, but as purchased, it's a common problem with just about every recent Motorola phone. Motorola's quality control just isn't at the same level as Nokia; granted, Nokia hasn't made a phone as sexy as the RAZR. Still, where Nokia's problem might be in the design department, Motorola's problem is in the quality control department. Nokia just needs to hurry up and release the 850MHz version of the 6230i and people wouldn't have to complain/worry about the poor screen and camera of the 6230. I will say that Nokia and Motorola do rank equally in the reception department, but it's the only area where there's parity between the two companies.

thanks! yeah Ive been digging around here and have found what should fix it for me. Just still trying to figure out if I want the black one or not. I'm selling my other car this weekend so I may treat myself to both I really wish Nokia would come out with something like the razr or even a nice flip for North america. I saw the na version of the 6170, but no bluetooth and kinda plain.
