No USB Connection

I've just received a Motorola USB data cable (SKN6311B) but am having trouble with my PC recognizing it. Whenever I plug my phone into the cable and attach it to my PC I get a message that there is a problem with ny new USB device.

I have rebooted my computer and cycled my E815 on and off. I've also gone into my XP hardware manager area and uninstalled the Unknown Device USB connection and did a new hardware search. This still gives me the same error message. I've even tried to change the device drivers but XP tells me that the E815 drivers don't match my device.

Do I have a bad phone or a bad cable? Would I be any luckier with a SKN6311A cable?

Any suggestions?

I've had similar problems with my cable. Sometimes it drops the connection. If I wiggle the cable at all it will drop the cable and then add it back. It's very flakey...

What software are you using? MPT's?

A major problem for softeare not recognizing a phone is that there is more that one USB Modem installed on your PC.

You can start in control panel>phone and modem options and click the "modem" tab. Remove entries of USB Modem and then do the same in your device manager under modems.

Reboot and then reinstall the software.

Easy way to use all programs is to install MPT's because it installs the modem and the drivers needed.

The software I was using was irrelevant because my problem was with the computer recognizing the USB device. It kept showing an "unknown device".

Anyway, I fixed my problem by getting a new cable. My first cable was a SKN6311B cable. The new cable I got was a SKN6311B and I haven't had any problems since.
