IS THIS palm one unlocked TREO 650?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

DOES ANY ONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT IS THIS ( THE SELLER CLAIM ITS IN CINGULAR BOX BUT HAS NO LOGO.

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=ADME:X:ON:CA:2

I WON SAME AUCTION I WILL RECIEVE IT SOON. I HOPE I DIDNT GET SCAMED

Posted by: Paul-the-Phone

It's probably exactly what the seller says it is, a new unlocked 650. However, it seems that it's not factory unlocked unlike the one at
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...gory=64355&rd=1. If you ever update the firmware in a phone that was hacked, as this one seems to be, then the phone might be relocked. Factory unlocks are permanent while not all hacks are. There's probably some Cingular specific software in the one you bought, such as Internet settings, message center number, etc. and some of the trivial literature in the box will be Cingular. GSM Treos usually don't have logo branding on the phone itself but it may still have the Cingular startup logo when it's powered on (which is easily deleted or replaced).

so whats your advise? im cingular customer any way i thought its palm one

i didnt reciev the phone yet but i callled the guy he said its palmone unlocked but in cingular box

so does this phone voided warranty?

thanks

Posted by: Paul-the-Phone

The phone should be fine for use on Cingular. Legally, the warranty is only for the original purchaser so unless this phone is coming from an authorized dealer with a receipt, you won't be the original purchaser so the phone won't have any warranty. Sometimes palmOne doesn't check for original owner or ask for proof of purchase but goes strictly by the manufacturing date. People who get a cell phone as a gift may have no paperwork. Unlocking usually doesn't affect the warranty and they won't even check for it.

thanks i wish i knew that so i will buy it from cingular cheaper

Posted by: hberbout123

the people they bought it the said:

"Yes, it did come in a Cingular Box, but the phone itself was NOT Cingular Branded. It appeared to be pure Palm phone"

if it palm one why its in cingular box

The auction didn't seem to mention a Cingular box. It DOES mention a slipcase though.

In the end does it matter? It's a 650. It's unlocked. It may (or may not) have a warranty.

He bought it and he has it. What's the diff? Can't change things now.

I'm more impressed by the fact that the seller accepted a zero-feedback, freshly registered buyer.

what do u mean by It DOES mention a slipcase though

http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=ADME:X:ON:CA:2

From the Ebay page:

"The unit comes complete with PalmOne/Handspring's warranty and includes the charger, handsfree earbud, USB cable, Owner's Manual, software CD included with the Treo, and a slip case in orignal box."

But, didn't you win this auction? If you are the one who did, then you are commited to following through and in theory there's no room for discussion, good deal or bad. Unless, of course you want to have a second phone.

Your profile says T-Mobile. So what's with the Cingular stuff? Had it been locked to Cingular you'd have no problem using it on the Cingular network.

Posted by: hberbout123

i use to be with tmobile now im with cingular ( sorry i have to update my profile)

i won similer action same guy i will recieve the phone tomorow

all im concern if it Refurbished palm one phone.

the guy didnt mention cingular box i found this wiered there is a reasonn he didnt mention it

Posted by: d1jey1

what does slip-case meant??? if it's unlocked .. how can it be in the cingular box...? was it cingular version- being unlocked?

Posted by: DaleJr#8

be carefull about buying these phones on ebay. I've been seeing quite a few scams lately from shady people on ebay.

Posted by: hberbout123

i got the phone, its look like cingular phone but no logo no cingular software on it. has 1.13.ROW

ITS IN CINGULAR BOX BRAND NEW.

Posted by: nxt

Btw, I bet you it's a Cingular branded Treo 650, and he took off the logo, and he loaded the Palm "unlocked" GSM firmware (which is possible.. i've done it).

Why in the world would you get an UNlocked, Unbranded (from Palm is the only way to get one) in an Cingular box? Doesn't make sense.

Posted by: cng.

The easiest way to tell is if the rim around the screen has a blue-ish tint. The PalmOne unbranded one has a silver mirror-like rim.

cng

Posted by: hberbout123

The rim its blue i checked the phone when i got it was clean no scratches nothing life timer 0.

If it cingular how they can afford selling it at 520$.

so far no problem with the phone but you are wright what its doing in cingular box.

the advantage for me is:
1-unlocked
2-DUN very nice work like a charm ( i dont know if cingular have DUN now)
3-if i bought it from cingular they will force me paying 40 $ amonth for DATA
Im paying now 19.99 the old media unlimited 1500 text
3-no cingular junk installed

BUT honestly i thought its palmone like the one from the palmsite
i was thinkig to contact the seller because he didnt mention cingular box

Life timer, you're typing the code in the dial pad to view that right? because the Totals in the Call Log is NOT the life timer.
1. unlocked. that's good, but make sure it is. you can type in any unlock code and it'll say it's unlocked. so besure get a diff sim and try it.
2. dun. the newest firmware update for cingular has dun included.
3. Don't have to. You can just call them or add it online for the media, they don't know you have a treo.
3 (again?). again easy to get rid and put the unbranded firmware on if need be.

Cingular, at least in some areas, is selling the 650 for $179.99 after $200 in rebates with a two-year contract. Some Cingular dealers can get 650s wholesale for around $380. They unlock them and sell them on eBay with some fancy book juggling to cover their tracks. It's not illegal but it's not exactly kosher either. A person could have trouble with the warranty since the sales record may be phony.
