Getting ready to order a MPx220 from somewhere, want to compare it to my SMT 5600 and then sell whichever one looses the comparison...
I've found an individual that's selling an MPx220, not sure yet what price I'll be able to negotiate, but it's used...not sure the condition yet, will be finding that out this weekend...he said it's 7 months old, not sure if there would be any warranty left on it or not.
Also found a new unit online (LostMyPhone) for $250 w/ a 6 month manuf warranty, it's not refurbed according to the site. Just found this retailer, not much about them on the net that I can find, but the few reviews I found look positive.
Are there any serious issues w/ this phone that could require warranty service from moto or do you guys feel I'd be OK w/ a purchase from an individual where the phone has no warranty ?
Thoughts, Suggestions, Recommendations ? ? ?
Thanks,
Chris

I've had mine for almost a year now. I personally think that a warranty is not needed for this phone. Others might disagree. It just comes down to your personal concerns with this.
I've tweaked it around a bit, and even flashed it to the latest official US ATT version (not the 3.45 Asian version). In my case, it's a solid performer (although I think that it tends to require a reboot at most once in a couple of days) and I have no concerns with sending this in for warranty coverage.
Just my two cents. But then, it seems that's what you asked for!

I've had both, have only the MPx now. I prefer a flip so that is why I kept it. Haven't had any problems so far. I highly recomend it!

Yep, exactly what I was looking for...just a bunch of 2 cents worth...
I have read alot about the MPx220 and other than some issues w/ the charging connection on the phone and the occasional gripe in some reviews I've read about the hinge assembly, it gets high marks for construction quality and overall seems to be a awesome phone...firmware upgrades seem to address all other issues folks have had...
...just wanted anything else that might be floating around that I hadn't read about...
anybody else ?

I've bot the phone a couple weeks ago and have been very happy with it. Only gripe i have so far is poor camera quality, but I'm sure you read that somewhere already. Volume for mine is perfect and I've never flashed an update rom yet. I've got the black model, so maybe it's newer and has a more recent rom already.

Yea, read about the camera, it's a non-issue for me. The SMT camera is pretty lousy too, but OK for a phone-camera...I never use it and will never use it...
Where did you buy your phone ?
I'm talking to 1 individual about buying used, and one website (LostMyPhone.com). Someone posted that site on HoFo yesterday and the few reviews of them I've found are good, it's only $250 (new and unlocked) from this company, but only a 6 month manufacturer warranty (strange?)...which is why I'm asking this question...
Does the old 'gray market' thing exists w/ cellphones, is it possible that LostMyPhone.com has this phone w/ a 6 month manuf oversea warranty or something ?

You must get a mpx220 with warranty! Its an absolute must! No other phone needs this much warranty protection lol. Anything at anytime can happen to the mpx220. I have had 4 of them! Thank God for warranty!

I thought the phone comes with a 1 yr. manuf. warranty
Anyway I came from using a 5600 and I like the flip a lot better and have not had any problems with mine at all. It is also the black, unbranded version which I immediately upgraded to the 3.46 rom

Yea, it does come w/ a 1 year everywhere I've found it but this place...I asked them and they said they didn't know why it wasn't 1 year...maybe shady, who knows...but for $250 new and a 7-day return policy, might be worth trying...
Anyway...I will definitely be upgrading to 1.43 or 3.46, but gotta decide where to buy first...

Good luck with the mpx220. I had two of them, they were replaced twice each. Both were exchanged under warranty. Just beware that you will probably experience a charging problem with this phone. Its a hardware issue. Some say they have not had this problem. Well, perhaps but one day you will find that the phone stops charging. Then you might have the problem that it just doesnt turn on at all. Or that you have to do a hard reset and lose all of your added programs. Just TOO many problems for me. Its a great looking phone. Too bad it has SO MANY problems that most users have echanged their phones for a more stable product. If you look at the posts here and elsewhere on the internet you will see complaints about volume, hands free issues and others. A used mpx220 may just be someone elses problem that they are dumping on you. I was sad to give back my mpx220 phones but have not had a single problem with the smt5600 phones that replaced them. Just beware!!!

hey ms2860, How old (when did you buy) these bad mpx220's?

ive had 6 mpx 220s.. i got t he very first batch that best buy got. the others seemed to develop problems very quickly. a couple would just turn off all the time by themselves. a couple was very low on the volumes. this last one seems perfect. the call volume is very loud, other people can almost hear what people im talking to say from close by. the only bad thing is the ringtone volume is crap and the phone cannot be heard when in a pocket. you have to use vibrate. i have not flashed this phone.
i did the reg hack to make the programs not auto close and this is the only thing i did to this phone.

I've had a MPx220 since last Thanksgiving. This past weekend I went to our local Best Buy and noticed they started to carry the Audiovox Smt5600 for Cingular. The moment I saw this phone I know I made the mistake of getting the MPx. By just looking at the phone on display it looks like the build quality is 10x better and the screen is simply amazing compared to my MPx220.

I'm a bit surprised to hear so many problems with the MPx220 ... I got mine from ebay and haven't been happier since. It's a solid performer. Yes, I have had to reset my phone every so often, but it hasn't been too bad. If you're the kindda guy who likes to tweak your PC, your PDA, or even your DVD player ... well, the MPX220 is for you.

The MPx 220 isn't for novice users or for people who just want it to work out the box...I love the fact that I can customize this phone into just about anything I want it to do, with in reason of course. The SMT screen is bigger but its not as bright, the miniSD card is not hotswapable, it slow IMHO and I don't like candybar phones. Thats just me...which ever phone servers your needs is the one to get.

I choose the MPX220!
If its got one of the newer ROMs it'll be awesome.
