UX4750 Data Cable and Software Availability?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: latrapeze

I just got a free LG UX4750 from US Cellular (they are trading them for the 5550's that they are having a ton of problems with. They replaced my car charger and the rest of my accessories except for the data cable I used with the 5550. Does anyone have any idea what data cable and software would work with my new UX4750 phone? Mac software would be best but I can use my wife's Windows machine if necessary.
Thanks in advance.

check this link. It should give you some ideas. The usb cable for the vx4700 should work just fine. Datapilot has a MAC version, but at this time the ux4750 is not supported. Try using QPST which can be found be doing a search through Yahoo or Google.

Thanks. I got the cable and hopefully, it will work. I will search for software to make it work.
Be good.
Phil

have you gotten the cable to work yet? I have a cable but BitPim does not work. Open for any further ideas on getting it working.
thanks

I have not got the cable yet, but will keep you posted. Please do the same for me.
Thanks.
Phil

Got the cable and it seems to work fine (battery charges off the USB connection). However, I cannot get BitPM to recognize the phone and, hence, I am unable to manage any files on the phone itself. Any ideas would be extremely welcome.
Thanks.

Check this link

Posted by: latrapeze

Do you know where I might find QPST?
Thanks.
Phil

We are not allowed to post links to this program. If you do a search through Yahoo or Google you should find it.

Posted by: latrapeze

Thanks. What is the most current version? I found 2.7.

Posted by: sunynp

That's what I'm using.

I've used BitPim to add ringtones to my 4750.

True, the software does NOT have the 4750 listed (in the settings), but if you choose the "other CDMA phone" option, you can read the filesystem from the filesystem tab.

You WILL need to install the LG USB modem drivers (I got them on CD with the data cable I purchased online), and the data cable is the same as the one for the 6100. Incidentally, the 6000 and 5550 data cable (same one for those 2) is supposed to work depending on who made the data cable, some manufacturers had larger system connectors that won't fit into the smaller space of the 4750 but others will.

To load ringtones to the 4750 with bitpim place them in the /user/sound/ringer folder, then delete the /download/dloadindex/brewRingerIndex.map file, right click on any of the root level folders, choose "reboot phone" from the menu and you should have it.

Oh, I forgot to mention that this phone will support the same type files as the VX6000 (.mp3 clips renamed to .mid will work).

You don't have to rename the files. All my custom ringtones are song.mp3 .

Posted by: latrapeze

Thanks so much. I will try this today and report my results.

Posted by: cfd0145

I never tried to leave the tones as .mp3s. I'd just assumed it would be like the 6000 and 5550 that you had to do the renaming. Good to know that I don't have to change them.

Posted by: latrapeze

Thanks. I followed the directions in the earlier post to load my ringtones and wallpaper and all seemed to go well until I went into my phone and could not "see" the ringtones or wallpaper files. They were "seen" on the phone by BitPim but I could not access them. Any ideas would be helpful.

Posted by: latrapeze

Sorry, I misread one of the directions and fouled it up. All is working well now, my only problem is the volume on the ringtones I uploaded is not sufficient. Any ideas on how to increase the volume on ringtones?
Thanks again.
Phil

You have to delete the BrewImageIndex & BrewRingerIndex files located in "/download/dloadindex" directory.

Depending on the program you are using either increase them by amplifing the file which will increase the size of the song, or normalize the file.

Posted by: cfd0145

I use Blaze Audio's RipEditBurn to do most of my work. It can open .wav files and save them as .mp3 files as well as do a whole slew of other stuff with them, including increasing the volume. I'm sure there are a bunch of other programs that will do the same thing, that's just one that I got long ago and got used to using. It can even change the bitrate to make the files smaller if you want.

after u run the file system if u change your phone to the 4400 it worked just fine for me

CFD... I've got a few questions for you regarding the bitpim setup and cable.

The cable you got, does it have 2 notches on it or 3? The VX6100 uses a 2-notch plug and the 6000 uses a 3.

When you set up bitpim, did you set it to "other CDMA phone" and select the exact Com Port or did you set it to Auto?

What version of bitpim did you use?

The driver you installed... during installation did you have to select a phone model or did it just install the files and not ask. If you could offer up that driver to me in an email, I'd be happy to post it on my site for everyone including directions to set it up.

Thanks,

shtygolfr

The cable I'm using has 2 notches, in fact, it was marketed for the 6100 I believe. It does NOT have any boxes in the cable, just the USB end and the LG system connector end.

I let it go with Auto the first time, but it never connects with that so choose Other CDMA phone and then I check the settings in BitPim (Edit > Settings > COM Port (click the BROWSE button), and select the one that says "LG CDMA USB Modem Diagnostic Serial Port Drivers (WDM) (COM4)" or whatever COM port that is set up on).

What version of bitpim did you use?

0.7.34, unless there's a newer one I need to download.

It pretty much just installed the software, then when I plugged in the phone it detected it as an LG USB modem. Incidentally, install the LG software BEFORE plugging in the cable. Reboot. Plug in the cable, let the system detect anything there, then the phone. My system went through about 4 "add hardware" loops to get everything it wanted. Even then when i plug in my phone, I get a "Phone not recognized" message box. I just close it and access the filesystem of the phone directly as per my other post.

I'll send a zipped version of the drivers I got.

CFD0145... Thanks a bunch for all the information. I appreciate you taking the time to reply so thorough.

Posted by: cfd0145

Not a problem. If you want the drivers I'm using, send me your email addy.

I've gotten to all this but how do I place the ringtones in the user/sound/ ringer folder and how do I delete the other stuff.
My phone reboots but I can't get my ringtones in there.
Help

Posted by: ShtyGolfr

delete the /download/dloadindex/brewRingerIndex.map by right clicking the file and click delete.

Posted by: AmDscGlfr

Ok, I have done all that you have directed to do. I see the ring tones but there is no sound once I can see the ringtone on the phone. I have the UX4750, and create an MP3 file for the ringtone - How can I change it to a .mid file?

Please help, Tired of paying $3 per ringtone

Posted by: ShtyGolfr

Before you copy the file to your phone, right click on the file and choose rename. Change the file extension from .mp3 to .mid.

If you don't see the file extension and only the file name you will have to change a setting in Windows to be able to do that.

XP: Open any file folder on the computer, click on Tools, then Folder Options. A Folder options window should come up.

Click on the View tab at the top then about 9 or 10 down on the list you'll see a square box for "Hide extensions for known file types" Make sure you deselect that (no check).

You will now be able to see the file extension on your mp3 file.

Posted by: AmDscGlfr

Ok, I have done this and changed the file successfully. But I am still not getting any sound off of the ringtone that I have created.

here is what I have done. I found the song I wanted - edited it with Rip-edit-burn. Created an MP3 file from it, changed that to a .mid file. Uploaded it to the phone, deleted the BrewImageIndex & BrewRingerIndex files located in "/download/dloadindex" directory. Then Rebooted the phone. The ringtone shows up in the sounds display for the phone but no sound is playing when that ringtone is selected.

Please help.

Posted by: sunynp

you don't need to rename the file to midi for it to work. If the file is not playing then most likely it is to big.

Posted by: AmDscGlfr

the other ringtones that I have on there are about 40-45k this one is 41k...

Posted by: cfd0145

...not sure what could be the problem. I know I've had several that wouldn't work until I edited them, converted them from stereo to mono, but I have others that work fine stereo.

I've uploaded a file 'qnair.zip' that is actually a .mid file. Rename it to qnair.mid, and try that. it's worked on at least 4 phones so far. It's just a Federal Q siren winding out, with some air horns at the end hence the name Q and air.

Posted by: ShtyGolfr

Have you tried uploading a regular midi ringtone first just to see if it would play? If one of those work and your mp3 doesn't, it will at least give you a better idea of where to start looking.

How many files do you have in your phone? Most of my ringtones are around 110KB with no problems. What are the properties of the ringtone?

Posted by: AmDscGlfr

somebody have one that I can upload?

I have 4 that are about 40-44k and 1 that is 3k, what other properties would you like to know? I downloaded all of them through EasyEdge (US Cellular)

Posted by: sunynp

If you downloaded them from EasyEdge then they were all in midi format correct?

Posted by: AmDscGlfr

You Betcha,

Ok I saved all the ones I downloaded from EasyEdge to my PC, Deleted them from the phone. Reconnected to BitPim, then uploaded them one at a time. Still the same problem, All of the ones I downloaded from EasyEdge work. The one I created doesnt

The format for the one I created is 8 Bit, Mono. it is 41.7K as an MP3 and 123K as a wav file.

I uploaded the files to my website - maybe someone can take a look and see if it is something I goofed up on when I made the file.

Posted by: sunynp

Change the sample rate from 11KHz to 22-32KHz.

Posted by: AmDscGlfr

How do I do that?

Posted by: sunynp

Within your editing program, when you are saving the file to mp3 there should be an option button to change these settings.

Posted by: AmDscGlfr

Ok, it works... So I was making the file non-Audible?

Posted by: sunynp

Yeah.

Posted by: AmDscGlfr

HA HA! Does anyone know how to get all the stuff back on to the phone so it will work :P - I was adding another ringtone and clicked the wrong link and deleted some stuff now all my phone does is hang at the US Cellular Screen

Let this be a lesson to all - Do not Drink and operate a computer at the same time.

Posted by: harleyanimal

When I right click on the download stuff it only gives save or hexdump no delete how do I delete this stuff? Also I've got my selected ringtones in the ringers tab how do I put them in the user/sound/ringer area?

Posted by: djshorty1

I have two LG 5550 and they are giving us troubles. How did you get US Cellular to replace your 5550.

Thank you

Posted by: harleyanimal

They told me my 5550s problems were from it getting wet and my cheapest option was to buy a used phone they had which turned out to be the 4750.
Not even 2 months later when the 4750 broke and I sent it directly to LG to be fixed for $75 I reactivated the 5550 and it worked fine until LG was done with the 4750.
So I don't know about getting a free phone but if you can wait a month or so for LG to fix your phone it's better to go straight to them and by-pass US Cellular.

Posted by: Matt_G

I recently got the UX4750 and was really wanting to make my own ringtones. Thanks to all in this thread for sharing. I hope I can get it to work.

Thanks.
