Okay, so I am planning on getting a sidekick 2 for the web browser and data stuff(aim, email) since I have a contract for cingular. I heard that there is a prepaid plan that costs you dollar for a whole day that you use web/aim/etc. Is this true?

yes...............

Yes you can get a prepaid sim card for a sidekick, i know this because i have one. The best way to go would be to go on Ebay and buy one, i know this becaus i just brought a sim card off of ebay that came loaded with 125 whenever min. and 50 t mobile dollars and doesnt expire till sometime in september for Only $6.99 + $9.99 to ship and $2 for insurance. the total was $19.97. This Is a great deal because i have a sim card with $50 on it and i only paid $20. Watch out though and ask the seller when will the card expiere or you might buy one with 3 days left. I got mine form ebay seller daicarom. he has high feedback score and products are what they say they are!!! Yip E my first post!!!!!!

okay so let me make sure i got this straight. I could go on ebay, buy a sidekick 2, get a prepaid t-mobile account, and only have to spend a single dollar on my account a day to use as much internet as I want?

Posted by: sk8boarder621

^^ yes...but u need to get the sim card activated to be used on a sk2 by calling customer service

Posted by: O0o0O12345

okay and how much would that cost and how long would it take?

Posted by: HyDrA_AnT

I left a few things out in my first post. The pre-paid sim card i brought of of ebay will come pre activated with a number set up. I was scared at first because the number did not have a local area code to it, but I got a t-mobile number that he sent me that I can use to get the number changed. With the sidek kick it cost $1 a day for unlimited internet, aim, text, and picture messiging and 15 cent a min for calls. Not a bad deal seening as how when the sim card comes to me i will have about 45 days left on it so i basicaly will have $5 that i can use on talking and still surf with out refilling it. I know that there is $50 on the card and when it will expire because he sent me the phone number and i called t-mobile and checked. it comes preactivated so i dont have to do it my self, just put it in and go. I would recomend you buy from the guy i said in my first post because he seems to be the only one on ebay i found who says you can change the number. The rest say you have to wait 6 months or more. Best thing is, right before i run out of money on the card i will buy another one from him and tell all my friends and stuff my new number and save more money and throw the old one away or sell it!! I think this will be the best way to get with a sidekick if your a teen like me or just dont fell like signing a contract and killing your credit when u run short a month. hope things work out for you and that i was some help!

If you purchase a sim off of ebay it will cost you nothing for cs to activate it. If you need a sim from t mobile it will be $50 for an activation kit and will include a $10's on the sim. pink

If you buy a sim card from Ebay with minutes, you have to use the dollar amount on the SIM card until the balance goes to $10 or less for Prepaid Customer care to put you on the special Sidekick 2 go account! Plus, you might want to change the cell phone numbers that come with the SIM card you get from Ebay, since they are already activated SIM cards.

i just bought the sidekick II prepaid kit off ebay. when i got it, i called CS and have them changed the phone number including the area code. been using it for a few days now and so far, loving it. yes, it's really true, only $1 a day for unlimited text, email, internet browsing and instant messenger. way to go t-mobile! i doubt other carriers have this kind of prepaid. o wouldn't have known about this if i didn't browse howard's forum.

Cool. Remember to keep money on your account. I returned mines since the web was too slow, and my camera wasn't working too good to my expectations.

I want to get a sk2 as well...I've been hearing alot of crap about it, from t-mo dealers and some people who have them. I hear slow load times for the internet and things of that nature. Should I go ahead and get it for data since I already have my nextel contract?

Its up to you. If you really want to have the Sidekick 2 as a communication device then get it. The web is somewhat slow, as I have heard, but its not real slow. You can use the device if you want to have Unlimited IM, web browsing, text messages, and email. But, its up to you.

Hi
I am coming into this late - I admit--- but
I had the sidekick and had a monthy $29 plan for unlimited data. No recharging of minutes etc. I had the plan for a year. Is there an advantage to the rechargable vs the 1 yr plan???
Thanks

Somewhat. The rechargable as you call it does not require you to sign a contract, or get a bill. You can not ROAM on any other carriers network, cause Prepaid doesn't have roaming agreements.

The post-paid(1-year plan version) causes you to get a bill, and be on a contract. Plus, you can roam, with the nationwide roaming agreements.

there are tons of sites which sell for cheap

Posted by: Lottery

so if i buy this pre-paid plan i cant use it in canada on the rogers or fido towers at all. is there a way to get roaming.

Posted by: beckbear

if you have a contract can you use the data portion while roaming? I thought I read that you couldn't but am not sure

Thanks

Posted by: jgeorge

Contract customers should be able to roam data where it's avaiable - this would include Fido/Rogers in Canada I believe...

Hey All

On another Forum a so Called T-Mobile Tech Guy said you will get Charged a $1 a Day even if you Don't use the Internet Connect or turn it On??? Is this TRUE??? If it is, can you turn your GPRS(Internet Connect)service to prevent this Charge??? I'm looking at getting a SideKickII Pay As You Go, but Not if you get charged even if your Not using it...

Thanks!!!

Brad

Thats true. Its the same as if you were on a month Sidekick plan. T-Mobile is not going to stop charging you just cause you decided to not use the service. Its like if you don't use the voice service, on your cell or home phone, the service provider will not give you a break just cause she didn't use the service. They would be losing money.

Hey terryjohnson16

Well that Sucks...hahaha Oh Well... I should start looking for a something else...

So even if you Turn Off the GPRS you still get charged... Just like a Monthly Plan...ahahah...

Thanks!!!

Brad

Yes, but a lot better ... if you run out of $$$ you don't have to keep paying and you have I think 90 days to add more $$$ and you can cancel it at anytime. (it will be cancelled automatically after 90 days I think if your balance is too low) In my opinion it's a lot better than having a contract and having to pay $29 for a full year and $200 to cancel

I didn't know about the roaming though .... T-Mobile has roaming agreement with who in the US so far as far as data?
