Using pre-paid after 1YR contract...

My 1YR of service ends on September 23, 2005.

So I need to buy a card, then once I turn open the browser, it's $1 off my credit?

No.

Prepaid works like this:

Day 1: Activate service at...say...noon. The $1 daily charge doesn't tack on until 12:01 the next day. In other words your first 24 hours are free, then the $1 comes off.

You get charged the $1/day thereafter regardless of what you do. Even if you leave the phone alone you're getting charged that $1. If you don't use voice that much but you're an insane data user (text msg, instant msg, web browsing, email), it'll be perfect for you.

Whatever calls you make are in addition to the $1 and I think there's a minimum of like $.33 per call or something, but don't quote me on that minimum fee.

So $10 card last for 10 days in a row of $1/day? $20 for 20 days? Is there an activation?

I wouldn't be able to use it on weekends if I would like?

I dont wanna sound like a sellsman for ebay but it would be the best way to go if you wanna buy prepaid. The card come activated so you dont have to worry about that and if your like me and send 100's of pics and text messeges then u relly want to go on ebay. Most sims cards on ebay come loaded with $50 tmobile bucks or 125 whenever mins on them and all you have to spend is around 20. Thats the best deal ever, and if you have a phone other than a sidekick, when u put $50 more dollars on the card u become a gold member and get even more mins when u refill. I have a sidekick so i can not becime a gold member so i just buy a new sim card when ever this one is close to ending.

Activation's included in the price you pay for the phone. So you won't notice it.

Your quote is correct IF YOU DON'T MAKE OR TAKE ANY CALLS.

And you can use it on weekends if you want. It's not business days, it's just days period.

And I agree with the above poster - if you rarely use voice, it really is the best deal for the buck.

So there's only 1 type of TMO prepaid cards? There isn't another prepaid card used for SK2's data?

thanks

Only one card. It is just how they provision the card to be used. pink

The time you buy is shared between voice and data. That's why I say it's a great deal if you don't use voice. If you do use voice frequently, postpaid may be the better option, truthfully.

After storing my sidekick in the closet for 6 months, I just bought a prepaid sim for it. Here's a question: if you shut the phone off, you're not actually using it, right? I'm not being charged $1 a day unless the phone is on, right?

You get charged the $1/day fee no matter if you use it or not. Shutting the phone off will not stop the charge. The only time you are not charged is if your balance runs down to $0.

I'm lost, you can get a prepaid T-Mobile sim card and put it in a sidekick and have a prepaid sidekick?

Posted by: revelated

The way I understand it from how the guy explained it to me - the Sidekick has to have a "Sidekick To Go" prepaid plan. IN other words you can't just activate service on a measly Nokia and then swap the SIM out to run your Sidekick on voice. You have to activate a Sidekick on a Sidekick plan. Whether he was telling me the truth or not I don't know - but if you're asking if you can have a prepaid Sidekick, sure. I do.

Can you buy a Sidekick II off of ebay and take it to a T-Mobile retail location and they will set it up on prepaid?

Posted by: tamaraa

You don't have to have a Sidekick Prepaid card for it to be prepaid. As a matter of fact there is no such thing. As a matter of fact as long as there is no bill on your current account, you can turn a post paid sim card into a prepaid sim card just by calling customer service.

Yup, or you can buy a Sidekick off ebay and a sim card and do it yourself. And like some mention a lot of them come with minutes or money already on them so you can buy both and never step in a T Mobilestore.
