Phone Prices (kinda mini-rant)

So, I decieded i'm bored with my phone and wanted another new one. I looked online to figure out which. Decided on the Samsung e317 or the P207 (again). The webpage listed the retail price as 99.99$ and 149.95$. Since the web page won't let you just buy a phone I called customer service, to do this.
They quoted me prices of 199.95$ and 229.95$ respectively, but was told that they may change depending on where i'm getting the phone. I asked why the price was so different. The lady says "its for online only" and i ask her why it doesn't say "online exclusive" and why she couldn't honour it. She said that it was web only, and I told her I wanted the e317 for the 99.95. Well it seems that there is no way to purchase the phone for the online retail price since the web page won't let you just purchase a phone without contract.
1, Anyone know any tricks get the phone for the "retail price" on the web page.
2, what are the actual prices of the e317 and the P207

Wirelessly posted (K750i: SonyEricssonK750i/R1L Browser/SEMC-Browser/4.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

Go to a corp store. Should ad the same online no commit price.

Nope. Expect to pay quite a bit more for no-commit, in the range of $100 more than the 'retail' price on the web.

its quite misleading. They advert the phone for $100, but there is no way to purchase it for that price.

As I understand it, the retail price is still with a 2-year contract. They're just throwing in a rebate to lower it. The no-commitment price will still be higher.

I don't see how it is misleading, it says right on the page that a two year contract is required and it's only for new service. And when you go through the process it asks if you want to upgrade your existing service and when you do it will tell you if you are eligible for a discount or not.

Your Price

"Your Price" is the lowest online price for this device based on your area. Prices are valid for a limited time and include any instant and/or mail-in rebates. "Online Only Deals" are only valid for orders placed on Cingular.com. Two-year agreement and new activation required.

well when I bought my Mpx220 and treo 650 they were both at reail price and same as the website retail price

399.99 and 549.99 respectively

Posted by: CkZX2

no, this isn't the "your price" one

This is for the e317

Retail Price $99.99
Mail-in Rebate -$50.00
*Your Price $49.99
Total Savings 50%

and the P207

Retail Price $149.99
Mail-in Rebate -$50.00
*Your Price $99.99
Total Savings 33%

So they're advertising the phones for retail at $99.99 and won't honour it, you can't buy a phone at the retail price online, telesales won't do it, and the stores won't either. So basically they could list whatever price they wanted whether it was $500 with $450 discount, or $75 with a $25 discount. There would still be no way to get it for the retail price.

the retail price is only with a contract
to buy a phone w/o contract there is a no commitment price which is what c/s gave you

It sucks but the page does say the prices are valid when purchased with a new service plan

If you find all of this misleading.....then man... :rolleyes2 :rolleyes2 :rolleyes2 :rolleyes2

It's not misleading because it says straight-up that a 2yr commitment is required.
