Definately would be better suited as the V551 is more durable, practicle and adds edge, and video capture on top of what the razr already has.

The V551 is better suited for most environments since casual usage will create scuff marks. If you don't want to "baby" your phone or don't care too much for appearance of the phone then the V551 is the right phone for you. Yeah, the V551 can record video, has EDGE, etc..but it's more practical than the Razr to carry around for everyday use. At least for me, this phone never caught on to my tastes...each to his own.

The only problem I see with this phone is that the stubby antenna may bother you while you're trying to work depending how you move and what type of pants you wear, something to consider before you get this phone. Look into Nokia's as an alternative...

which phone never caught you taste, and what other nokias would you suggest?

v551 is not built too solid
i worked landscaping for a few weeks and the v551 cannot handle most of the coniditions
if you ever drop your phone, forget it

look to a bar phone for durability
but i know most people want the "cool" flip phones that are trendy now
but if you must, v551 is most likely better at taking a beating than the razr
don't even consider the v220 or v180

Nokia 6170b. No bluetooth, but other than that it's an awesome phone. I bought one on eBay for $260 including shipping, and it's been great! I don't use bluetooth, which is why I'm trying to sell my HS820 headset, because I don't use it, and it's brand new.....

i would recomend a nokia 6230
small, durable, has speakerphone
also while you're working, you can listen to fm radio, mp3's, or talk through a wireless bluetooth headset if you'd like.

if that's too many features for you, then i would say check out the sony ericsson z500a....flip phone, internal antenna, mp3 ringers, and spearkphone

The Razr.
You could look into Cingular's current lineup of Nokia's...the 3120, 6010, 3220 or 6230 if you want something to slip in or pull out of your pocket without too much fuss. Phones with stubby's can be a pain to quickly to remove/slip in the pocket, sometimes slowing you down when you need to reach/pull/shove the phone to stop the ringer/answer a call when you're working .

he's right but once again, i think durability comes into play here

if your hands are full while working or covered in something, are you going to want to try your luck with a $200 phone?
i mean we all drop our phones sooner or later and in my experiences, bar phones can take a whole helluva lot of punishment than flip phones.

its just a little dissapointing that due to enviormental risks, i have to give up such features as bluetooth, or a decent speakerphone. i have a 3120 that is a great little phone... but just missing something. yaknow? also... what phone can you buy out of contract for less than 200 bucks?

i just bought a brand new never used 6230 for $142.50 plus shipping off of ebay
going home today to play with it (just got it in today)

but it's a big fatter than the 3120 but basically same size
much better screen...but you don't have to give up those features you spoke of
for a phone well under $200 new, you get BT, spearkphone, mp3 player, fm radio, camera/video (not the greatest quality, but hey, it's a phone), durability, and good reception.

but like i previously said, if you're into flip phones, the SE z500a can be had for around $120 new on ebay, mp3 ringers, speakerphone, camera.

You know, I've owned a lot of different phones, and I have always dropped my phone if it's a flip phone, but I've never dropped a bar phone before. Never.
