Hi experts,

I have a question, which of these two phones are better? N840 by NEC or the Sharp SX813. They both seem to be highly competitive to each other and their specs are quite close, they both have the 2 megapixel as well. Could some of you give me some guidance?

sharp have nicer screen and according to my friend... the nec phones are not too user friendly and the support for it is bad. personally it's up to u.. whichever you can get cheaper i guess

on the contrary, i think the 902 isnt that user friendly, it could be a little bit better.

It really depends on what you want in a phone. Let me make it easier for you.

Better pictures: N840
Better screen: 902 (Aquos LCD )
Bigger screen size: 902 (2.4")
Smaller and Less Weight: N840
Better Video playback: 902 (Hands down best in the market)
Better CPU Power: 902

If you want a phone just for mp3s and great camera pictures without spending too much money (ebay about <$400 new, >$300 mint), then the N840 is for you.

If you want a phone with multimedia purposes eg. watching computer quality full movies, listening to mp3s (quality identical to ipod), good camera pictures, etc, then 902 is for you. It costs about $500 new with any firmware you want.

If you decide to get the 902, then i suggest you wait till the 903 comes out sometime in august or early september. It will have everything from the 902 but with a 3.2 MP camera, which by then will be the best camera phone out.

I personally would rather get the NEC N840...
The pluses on the 902 don't really interest me..I mean who wants to buy a $90 1gb memory card just to watch 1 movie!
Yeah the screen is better on the 902, but if you're getting the vodafone version of the 902 then you're getting those crappy blood-red menus!
And the 902 has this tiny LED external screen, not much useful info there.
I love having a nice one that shows whos calling with a picture, texts and a large time/date.

So you gotta make up your mind what you want.
great screen(902) or good screen(n840)?
plays movies on 1 gb memory card(902) or no movies(n840)
great camera(n840) or good camera(902)?
large color external screen(n840) or tiny LED screen(902)?

For one it doesnt take one whole entire 1GB SD to play one movie, thats a stupid statement, you know there are converting methods that do convert movies to smaller playable sizes. Every nonsmartphone plays a converted video format. FYI one full DVD to 902 movie is about 250 mb, and thats at the best setting. Also the external LED display isnt useless because it shows the time, whos calling, text messsages, reception, and battery life. If thats useless to you then you need a reality check buddy. Next time buy the phone and actually use it and do research about it, noob. And then what?

the extra features on the 902 aren't really necessary to me. i never really used a 902 so i can't really comment.

but i do know that the NEC is one of the best camera phones (besides the k750) on the market.

neither the 902 or the N840 is user friendly.

OK, comparitively speaking, both phones are a few steps away from the User Interfaces of the now legendary Sony Erricson, however I have used a sharp GX32 and maybe some v902sh owners can chime in on this one. The things about sharp that annoyed the crap out of me were.

LONG lagging picture preview. If i wanted to show my friends my picture album, it would only load 3 pictures at a time and each one takes at least 5-8 seconds to load off the sd card as just a PREVIEW thumbnail.
the n840 allows for a 3x3, 9 picture preview grid and the pics take fractions of a second to load.

does the 902 support a grid preview?

Picture saving time is 4-5 seconds on full 2mp. Picture savingtime was at least 8-10 seconds on the gx32 with was only saving 1mp. picture saving time on the n840 @ 1mp is 2-2.5 seconds.

how long is the saving time on the 902?

Sharp's ***-backwards user interface. I stuck it out with my gx32 for a LONG time, but everyday annoyances were just killer. Like adding a number to an existing entry in your phone book was not a simple enter+add process.

T9 input on the gx32 was an afterthought. the t9 predictive entry on the n840 is the best i have used so far. saves all new words, will even save mixed alphanumeric words (n840, L8R, s710a), and will recall those words as you are typing them and auto complete if necessary. There is a spelling mode and you can even highlight, copy and paste selections or entire messages... I am guessing this level of predictive input is also available in chinese mode as well.

I want to know what the mp3 player is like on the v902sh. the n840 allows for a 30 song playlist, where u can change up the order of the songs etc. if the phone is closed, the remote will allow you to skip to the next song by holding down the action button on the remote. Its quite handy to use on an everyday basis, as i use it in the gym daily and it works well.

video is capped on the n840 to 300kb.. but then the n840 allows for video caller ID... so you can take a vid of your hot friend and have her play back everytime she calls you.

Sharp handsets are great quality, but the software they use is just a letdown. Comparing the user interface alone to the n840, and it feels like the v902sh was made a year ago. Compared to a s710a or even z500 and the 902sh feels like it was made 3 years ago. the screen is massive 2.4" but it totally feels like it was not well thoughtout if i were using it on a day to day basis.

n840 has 850mhz.

Thank You very much for all your input on the two phones. With all this information, I can really compare both phones pros and cons. Thank you once again for all the feedback.

hmm i takes me 4 sec to save to my sd card @ max resolution and fine quality. and as for the pic grid i don't think it support it on the 902sh i dunno why urs take so long to load mine takes avg of 1 second to load max 2

Posted by: Timsta

mine doens't load that long..

the 902 is a pretty good phone in my opinion and im a guy who has been using SE phones since the t68. the user interface is quite crappy compared to SE"s of course.
