Why NEC?? (.3pg, .nva, .mfm)

Ok I got a N830 and while its cool that it can play formats that I've never heard of, there's no way I can get them on my phone...
1. .3PG - Found a cool program to compress tiny video files BUT NEC programs requires authorization which I have no idea where to find.
2. .MFM - Ringtones that are exactly the same as midi and mmf except ONCE AGAIN NEC programs do not recognize my .mmf files and there's no point in .mfm files unless you just want to convert midi/mmf to mfm which is pointless, can't get voice tones(mmf) to convert to mfm format.
3. .NVA - Suppose to be a format for animated pictures, didn't find a problem relating to the NEC program because I couldn't find anything related to it.

Why do companies do these stupid things such as adding such a feature to use "unique" formats while they aren't really accessible to the average person??

Most of it comes down to copyright but I was able to transfer videos via infrared that were less than 300 kb! Did you try that?

I don't know where the infrared is on my phone, usually I can tell but I don't see any lens around my phone...There is a infrared feature on my phone but I just don't know where the infrared is.

i think its right by the camera, behind the black plastic...

Don't see it, flashed it around my laptop's IRDA and no response.

I am pretty sure its that little light just under the flash, no?

btw, the n830 still looks sooooooo good.

o wow cool, the irda is somewhere in that area, but its a little unconvenient isn't it. Now if I wanted to transfer things through IRDA, would I need any addition drivers aside from the data cable ones?
Thank acl88!

No you do not need any additional drivers to transfer pictures, contacts and videos (up to 300kb) to the phone. The infrared port is loated next to the NEC word.

just turn on the IR port on your computer and turn on the IR on the phone, they should recognize each other.. i cannot remember if drivers are required, only one of my laptops have IR on it, and since i have the cable, i seldomly use it. - goodluck!

Hmmm...the infrared is weird on my phone, my laptop detects it on the weirdest times, when I try pointing the IRDA on my phone, no response til I move it around...I'm better off using the datacable haha.
If only the N830 had an sd card spot then it would be perfect heh heh.

u gotta angle it towards the infrared port and wait for it to flash red for a sec...then on your comp it'll signal found NEC xxxxxxx but keep it close to the comp. the range on the NEC and most IR is fairly limited anyway.

if the N830 had unrestricted BT and a SD slot...i'd probably never look at another phone again. well maybe it's big brother (the N840) for the 850 but that's another story lol

Wow, the distance is really limited, o well guess I am better off using the datacable

The NEC n850 has unrestricted infrared (MP3, video, pictures, ring tones) but BT is for headset and car kit only!

i know eh...and no expandable memory too...IR to send media would take forever and i'm not a waiting man hehe. what is it with Sharp and NEC crippling the bluetooth...it's an injustice I tell ya.
