I am about to switch from ATT - TDMA to Cingular. The only thing holding me back is the "phone" decision.

I need very good voice reception! I want it to pull in a weak signal if possible.

I am torn between the V551 and the Nokia 6230. I am thinking that even though I REALLY want a flipper --- my best reception would be on a 6230.

I would use the camera on both for snaps when I didn't have my canon with me but the quality of camera isn't a deciding factor. I have NO intention of surfing the internet or any of the other "goody" stuff that is an optional service.

I might consider a bluetooth headset IF I got the V551. Most of all I need reliable and as good a reception as is possible on a cing. gsm phone.

PLEASE HELP people who have had experience with both or...have other suggestion

THANK YOU
Redfish

Have you tried NBO? I don't know if they can switch you to Blue GSM.

I think that you mistunderstood or I didn't make it very clear --- I am currently an ATTWS TDMA customer (out of contract). I am going to migrate to Cingular GSM and yes I have already spoken to the NBO. I just can't make a phone decision. We will get the family plan and one Nokia 3120. It is Phone #2 that is the stumbling block (#2 is heavy user).

These phones have been compared endlessly on a number of threads. See, for example: http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...light=V551+6230

Personall, after using both I grudgingly went with the V551. The 6230's screen is too bad, the keypad is awful, and it's weight (compared to other candybar phones like the T637) makes it cumbersome to use if you do a lot of texting/emailing. No doubt that the 6230 has more features and that Nokias generall have better quality control, though.

If you go for a V551, you MUST make sure that you get the latest firmware, or you are wasting your money.

Get the Nokia.

I had the V551 and it was a great phone. Great reception, had no problems with it at all. I highly reccomend it. The 6230 is an awesome phone that is feature packed with limitless capabilities with expanded memory. You can load a movie on it and watch it on the cell phone which is kinda cool. If it is a tough decision decide basically what form factor you would prefer and remember you have thirty days to try it and return it for another phone.

I wrote down that number of the latest firmware that I found on another site. --- R 472_G_08.18.16R OA ---

Question is...How do I find out if it is the latest firmware update? Where is it located in the phone??????

Go to: settings / phone status / other information / s/w version
