No hidden catches....In order to purchase the P800, you must be a registered Community member at the Ericsson Mobility World website (free).

Posted by: phonedude

hummmm i bet is there for a long time and we didnt notice....so did some bought and sold for 2800USD????????????

Posted by: WoeDee

LOL

Posted by: whtrbt7

Ooh, this is better than the commercial version. If I don't have a solution, I could just program one with the provided software. Time to pick one of these babies up.

Posted by: Ericsseur

Oh, I really really REALLY didn't need to see this...the Dev Kit AND the phone for 1100..that sounds pretty good to me!!! I would be hesitant if the phone contained non-production quality hardware, but if it were just the OS that needed updating after the product intro, I would seriously consider purchasing this. Now I just have to write to my family saying that I'll be sending them nice pet rocks for Christmas instead of real gifts...

Posted by: WoeDee

I wonder if the Pre Commerical unit will have all of the bundled software that the final production unit will have? Might the unit be a bit unstable, buggy? Any comments?

Posted by: whtrbt7

The pre-commercial unit doesn't come with the Software CD that comes with the commercial P800. If you read the bundle datasheet, you would see that the SDK comes with a CodeWarrior CD, and a P800 developer's tools and Documentation CD. It even comes with a big black case and a T-shirt There are other goodies in there but this kit is really for the people who want to design software. Codewarrior alone is around $300. I think it's a pretty good deal. Did I mention that there's a T-shirt and a BIG BLACK HARD CASE??? I wish they would have bundled a titanium case or at least a stainless steel one. It probably would have pushed the cost of the bundle to around $3000.

Symbian OS™ is that from Microsoft ?

Posted by: whtrbt7

Eeeeeeep you said the M word.
Actually Symbian is not Microsoft. While Microsoft makes the popular Pocket PC/ Windows CE for PDAs and Smart phones for exaple the T-mobile Pocket PC phone, Symbian is the operating system used in products such as the Nokia 9210,Nokia 9290, Nokia 9210i, Nokia 9110, Nokia 7650, Sony Ericsson R380 series, Sony Ericsson P800, and a plethora of other phones and smart phones. Symbian OS 7 is the latest symbian OS which is currently only available on the P800. (You figure by 7 major releases they finally got it right yuk yuk) Originally the Symbian OS went under the name of EPOC. The products were quite shortlived since the Pocket PC/Win Ce 4.0 OS came out. Many of the current Symbian users now will say that Symbian will be the next big OS for mobile telephony since it's more of an integrated solution than Pocket PC/Win Ce. Please don't flame the PPC formats or Symbian formats. Sure everything has problems every once in a while but that is life. For more info on Symbian please visit http://www.symbian.com .

sweet find...
now....where can i find that excess us$1150.....

me

Posted by: whtrbt7

Come on Wolwol, scrape up that green. You know this kit is irresistable. I know you want CodeWarrior and the T-shirt. Keep in mind it's also the Pre-commercial P800 as opposed to Pre-production P800. I checked the new white papers and these have everything that the commercial units have. You know you want to be a developer . It's the cool thing to do.

Don't get a Vertu, you can always add a magnesium alloy body to the P800. I know guys in China that can smith you a precious metal body. Why settle rest when you can have the best?

Posted by: allen7

Great find

Posted by: mobileguy

So does anyone order it and got it from ericsson/sony?

How long does it take. I'm thinking about ordering.

Also does it have the memory stick slot available?

Or using the MMC

Posted by: whtrbt7

The unit comes with the MS Duo and the MS adapter. The slot is also present since it is a pre-commercial unit.

Posted by: [MDS]

they also sell t300 developer's kit...

http://www.ericsson.com/mobilitywor...e/products.html

bud definately a good deal on the p800...

Posted by: [MDS]

there is nothing binding there, i read the terms and could not see anything abnormal or anything that will require you to do something special in return, for instance when i was trying to buy a beta version of the sendo smartphone (cancelled now) it said there that you will need to write a report back to them every month about what kind of work have you done so far and stuff, this here does not say anthing about that...great deal, if only i wanted that phone i would surely buy it....

A friend ordered a P800 bundle on November 11. He sent an email inquiring about its ETA, they replied that it is estimated to be shipped 1Q 2003.

If I were to order this now, when would it be shipped and from where?

Thanks

LOL... hahahha. Sorry... that's just plain funny.

By the way... what's the difference between the P800 and the P802?

Posted by: mobileguy

So, even you order it now, and still no hope to get it on chrismas.
This is kind of funny, if they release on Q1 2003 to dev. then how they can get software in time for launch??

So may be the lanch day is Q2 2003

So does anyone got one from ericsson?

Please reply.

the p802 is the chinese version of the phone.

Posted by: [MDS]

well this does not make sense, they say right on the page there that this is a pre-commercial version of the phone, so according to all said on these forums the final retail version arrives in jan/feb... so tell me what would be the point for them to send you a pre-release ver if the final version is out... so, logically if you order it, you should get it right away...

I agree with you, MDS. If you order it now, you should get it ASAP. It only makes sense. I am starting to question the validity of "CoolOne"s statement:
Quote:
"A friend ordered a P800 bundle on November 11. He sent an email inquiring about its ETA, they replied that it is estimated to be shipped 1Q 2003"

Posted by: [MDS]

i don't think that those guys who are selling the phones for 2800 got them through that offer, not all of them at least... people were selling those for a while now, but this offer seems to be recent....

i do feel kinda sorry, knowing that someone actually bought the phone for 2800, now they know... it does not matter how much money you have, it is still not reasonable and rather dumb to pay 4 times the price.....

Posted by: whtrbt7

I think that those people that bought the earlier versions of the P800 got their money's worth. If you think about it, the Pre-production P800s are rare and will probably be a collectors item. They also got the P800 before anyone else which seems to be a major plus. Unfortunately, it does not seem like anyone has really marketed themselves or their P800 effectively. Most of you should know, the global community is responsible for whether products succeed or fail. If none of us develop applications for the device, the market for the device will fall apart. If you like the P800 and you think that it would make a great consumer device or business device, please support it.

well, how will you distinguish a pre-prod unit from a release ver... i think its the sticker on the back and on the box thats all that makes it different, and i don't really recall anything being a collecter's (a cell phone anyways) that is mass produced.... or because its a preprod item, but that does make sense, however it is not enough to justify 2800 price tag...

Posted by: kaneman

MDS, it's all about perceived value. To some people, spending ANYTHING on a phone is unjustifiable. Why would they pay when they can get a "free" phone? What is or isn't justifiable varies from person to person. For you, $2800 may be unjustifiable for the P800, but for someone else who wants it RIGHT NOW it's perfectly justifiable. They didn't have to wait, they got the phone first, and they are happy. Personally I chose to wait rather than pay $2400-$2800. I also had an offer of $1400 and trading the Sendo but I chose not to as the P800 will be available in the future while the Z100 will not. Seeing the post on the developer kit made me realize how right my decision was! I'd have felt like a COMPLETE idiot if I'd paid more AND traded the Z100 even if I do have to wait 3-4 weeks.

Posted by: [MDS]

thats my point... i am ready to spend 1000 or whatever for the phone if it's worth it... i need to have the latest and most advanced but at a price (or with a premium) that is reasonable... while P800 is supposed to be priced around 700 upon release, and if i wanted it, the price for this kit around 1200 is perfectly understandable it is not much of a premium provided the code warrior bundle... as for the 2800 thats way out of line...
just like Vertu that is priced 20 times the usual cell phone price it is perfectly reasonable knowing the services it offers and the materials it is made of, but in my opinion premioum should not triple the price of the product....

anyway, i hope all those who bought it at that are happy and don't feel like complete fools. Just like someone said here on the forum couple of days ago: after the release it won't matter who got it first, we will all have it (well not me, cuz i don't want it, i want an unlocked spv instead) and then whoever got them at 2800 will most likely have more headaches with their faulty pre-prod hardware and sw.... so now they will enjoy their 15 minutes of fame at an expense of 2k....

Don't have the eta from SE directly, but a Sales Manager from Metroworks (the company that sells Code Warrior) told me today that the Development Bundles are currently shipped. So the only reason for a delay would be that there are too many orders

CHeers,
Rog.

Posted by: dapope

Kewl, i just ordered mine, hopefully it will be 2 weeks or so.

Awesome!!!

I wish i had money to burn though!!

Posted by: whtrbt7

Hey P800 fans,
For those of you looking to get some return on capital, there is the code to cash contest run by SEMC. It's still not to late to enter. The last submittal date is Dec-7-02. For those of your living in New York, Florida, Mexico, or China you will not be able to win the prizes since SEMC is not accepting competitors from those places. There will be 50 winners and they get a P800, CodeWarrior Pro, and get their app placed on Handango. Cha-ching!!!! Unfortunately, you will get your prize in mid-January if you do win.

Posted by: dapope

That was quick , i just checked my citibank online acct, and they already had put the charge thru on my debit card. dang, maybe i'll get mine by turkey day [not]
adios

Posted by: whtrbt7

Wait, when is turkey day? Awww crud, I never know when holidays are anymore. Do people even deliver on turkey day? What kind of delivery did everyone use when ordering?

Posted by: dapope

I used 2 day

Posted by: whtrbt7

Where is WoeDee? I think WoeDee ordered one too. I chose 2 day delivery too.

@dapope: that's strange... it works for me

@dupasquier: yepp, "back-ordered", the same for me... unfortunately, they can't tell me when it will be in stock again

I got it in the mail I've mentioned before where they said that my order is "back-ordered".
I guess digitalriver is the online-store that provides the SE Support-Products.

BTW: it's http://service.digitalriver.com/cs (with the "s" in the end). Maybe that was your problem?

CHeers, Rog.

Posted by: dapope

this is what i got from SE when i placed order.

You can contact support in two ways - either send an e-mail to
semc.support@metrowerks.com or fill out the support form at:
http://www.ericsson.com/mobilitywor...ice/index.html. To get a
quick reply, please include the following information:
*Name and versions of the tool, SDK or phone being used.
*Problem description, including details on what steps have been taken to
resolve the problem.
Also what steps to follow to reproduce the problem.
*Your order number (found on your order confirmation)

Posted by: whtrbt7

Dapope:

We ordered our SDKs directly from SEMC and Metrowerks. Digital River is a supplier of e-commerce solutions and their customers are going to be one step lower in the supply ladder. SEMC will have to ship P800 SDKs to Digital River before Digital River can ship those units to their clients. If you want, you can call the Ericsson Mobility Center or even visit their office in New York (I'll PM their contact info for you). I haven't been there yet so maybe we can go together.

Posted by: dupasquier

I try to call them (park avenue office) and only get a voicemail...
Nobody got back to me since my voicemail left yesterday.

Posted by: dapope

it finally allowed me to log in, here is what i got.

Order Number:xxxxxxx Order Status: Pending Shipment

not sure what it reallly means, because they did hit my credit card. so, i guess we'll have to wait and see.

Posted by: rog

Well, if they charged your card, I think they will ship/ have already shipped it to you! Because in the mail I've received from them, it's stated that no credit card charges are made unless the goods are shipped...

But you're right, we'll see...

CHeers,
Rog.

Posted by: dapope

It would appear that way, but, then again, im not holding my breath, knowing how these things playout. I'll let every1 know if i do get it.

I received an email from Ericsson support mobility world telling me that the Dev Kit will be available within 2/3 weeks.

By the way, I talked to a person at Ericsson mobility world in New York and she thinks that the P800 is going to be available everywhere in a few weeks. She said that she wouldn't be surprised if it is out before Christmas.

Posted by: rog

Well, at least they all give us the same information

Posted by: dupasquier

Looks like the P800 is going to be available at the same time that the Dev Kit.

P800 in december. Official statement.

Yes, it is true take a gander at http://www.mobil.se

It says that it will be released in Sweden before newyear. That is great

or as a guy on esato forume translated:
"It has been more a hope then a fact/promise that SE will release P800 to christmas, but now it seems to be a fact.

Nina Eldh information-"boss" SE promise now that P800 will be out before christmas in sweden, atleast in a small amount.

About how many will be released in sweden ?
-That i cant answer.

Why has it been delayed ?
Its complex to get all the part to get together, and we want it to work as good before we release it. From the start it wasnt ment to have memory stick and it took some time to get it in."

Posted by: whtrbt7

@Dupasquier

Yes, it is confirmed the the P800 SDK is coming in 2-3 weeks. For us NYC people, that will be around a few weeks earlier than the full commercial units that are being sent to the master dealers. Originally when they did an initial "charge" to the credit card, they confirm that you have the funds to pay before they really charge you. I talked to my master dealer and he said that his pre-production units will arrive nearing christmas but his full commercial units will arrive later.

Posted by: dupasquier

Thank you for the precision whtrbt7.
I was just wondering if I should cancel my order for the Dev Kit.

Posted by: whtrbt7

Does anyone want to plan a field trip to Mobility World in NYC? Maybe they can give us a group tour so we can all see what goes on in Mobility World. Maybe they can give us the T300 Free Dev kits as souvenirs. BTW, are any of you SDK purchasers developers? For anyone that reads this and has purchased a P800 SDK, please PM me. Let's get a group together.

Please use your browser's "Back" button, change the province, and try to submit again. "

I keep putting Non-US as I am in Canada and they do ship here but it just is messed up, I tried putting in other states as well but it wont take it...did anyone have this problem?

Posted by: whtrbt7

@Dapope

I ordered my Bluespoon Panther from Pilcon. They normally get their units before Expansys. The webpage looks kinda crummy but hey, it get's the job done securely.

Regarding a case for the P800, the unit does come with a case. My personal opinion is that it looks ugly but at least it protects the phone. Vaja Cases will probably make a nice P800 leather case but don't expect it until the commercial release. If you want to get a case with approximate size, I would suggest the Nokia 7100 series case from Vaja since the size is almost about right. I can't guarantee anything though so it's caveat emptor ("buyer beware" for you non-latin speaking people) for those that want to try it.

@DJXP

When I ordered the P800, I got confirmation of the sale almost immediately. If you look on my post, I ordered on 22-NOV-02. If you meant the Panther, I think I ordered it way back in September since that's when I remember the normal Bluespoon was coming out. I got notified that the Bluespoon was being delayed until the week after but I kept looking on Pilcon's site and they just kept on delaying the Panther week by week. I'm pretty patient since I waited for my P800 since March, so I will wait for the Panther.

@Curtis_tom

My post was regarding the Application Proclamation from SEMC. If anyone wanted to enter into the contest, the submittal date is 7-DEC-02. It's a chance for people to win P800s and a spot on Handango to sell their apps. If interested in development, just log on the the Code to Cash page on SEMC.

Posted by: dapope

hi guys, just a quick question, the p800 will accept any memory stick ? like the Lexar Media's 128MB Memory Stick. Another type of media to buy , uggg
adios
stan

Posted by: rog

Nope... it only accepts Sony's "Memory Stick Duo" which is compatible to the "ordinary" Memory Stick.

CHeers,
Rog.

Posted by: dapope

Rog, do you know who is selling these at a decent price ?
thanks
stan

Posted by: rog

No, I'm sorry, haven't been after that. Maybe anyone else has?

CHeers,
Rog.

Posted by: whtrbt7

After exhausting research, it seems that the MS Duo is very elusive. I haven't found anyone selling these just yet. I think we will have to wait until the actual P800 launch in order to get larger MS Duos. Sony hasn't been selling the MS Duo at all in NYC and the only product that currently uses MS Duo is the P800. Perhaps, by December 3rd, we will start seeing the MS Duos on the market. The sizes currently go up to 128MB.

Posted by: WoeDee

Congrats to ALL of the new P800 owners! You are turly amongst the elite!!

Cheers!!

Posted by: rog

To all the lucky guys in the States who will receive the phone before me: please report if there's a Memory Stick included in the Dev Bundle
I just checked the Data Sheet of the bundle, and I couldn't find any hint that the Stick will be included in the Pre-Commercial Version. However, it definitely will be in the Public Release of the P800.

CHeers,
Rog.

Posted by: whtrbt7

Alright, let's get this straight. The P800 comes with the MS Duo, NOT Memory Stick. It also comes with the Memory Stick Adapter. This is specified in the P800 packing list (that's in the manual). The P800 SDK should have the MS Duo and adapter included in the package.

Posted by: Freak

there is a guy on www.esato.com forum that just got his p800 sdk, ande there was a 16 Mb MS duo in the package!

Finally, Pilcon has shipped my Bluespoon Panther. It's taken them a while but I bet it will be worth the wait. Wow, both the P800 SDK and the Bluespoon Panther next week. It's going to be one hell of a week. I'll start posting as soon as I get stuff together. Rog, I meant no disrespect when I said MS Duo (just in case I was misunderstood). Dapope, we will get our units on Monday most likely. The package already left Austin and is on its way to NYC. I am also having problems ordering this from Canada. I called Metrowerks directly, they said I should call back to talk with their sales on Monday (due to the holidays).

See http://www.metrowerks.com/MW/SymbianWirelessDevKit.htm

It seems that they do ship outside of the States. I wonder if anyone else has been successfully able to order online from Canada, that is reading this posting?

Adrian

I received this email from their customer service:

--------
We deeply apologize for this inconvenience.

Unfortunately, we are unable to ship this product to Canada. This
physical product is available only in the United States.

Thank you for contacting the online store's Customer Care Center. If you
have any further questions or concerns, please "reply" to this e-mail.
--------

However on http://esato.com/board/viewtopic.ph...orum=2&start=40
there are people in Europe that have been able to order it!

I will follow up.

Posted by: kaneman

Is that price with or without activation? I notice the rate plan link but the website says nothing about a contract.

Just surfing around with my new P800

BTW does any one know if the browser is infact the Opera? Thanks

Posted by: iridium

BTW.. for those of you trying to setup MMS on your P800, just go to sonyericsson.com, click on global support.. and select T300 as your product... the MMS auto setups are identical on a P800

Now I feel like my time spent reading hofo is actually paying off

take a look here

@Lagos

The website that you provided says that it is only taking orders for the P800. It also looks like the P800 is CDN999 with a contract only. Keep us posted to the availability and pricing. Although orders can be taken, it doesn't mean you will get your P800 anytime soon.

@dapope

Watch my P800 and Panther come in at the same time. Argh so many pics to post but so little time. =)

@dima237

Thank you for being part of the HoFo community. This is a great resource for everyone. I know that I appreciate all the hard work and the friendly advice being thrown around.

I cintacted these guys. They claim that their first batch of P800s is already sold out for delivery in "late December". They are taking "pre-orders" for their 2nd batch (but with no delivery estimate as yet).

did you ask if they require any kind of contract? I didn't see anything on the website...

@whtrbt7

if you look at my post, you will see that I never said you will get your p800 soon....I was just giving an idea of how much the p800 is going to be when it is released....since most of you guys say it is going to be around $800US in the US, I figured this might be an interesting for some of us in canada...

Posted by: Tr0LL

Does anyone know if this is returnable? Any of you guys that bought it know the terms and conditions for returning?

Or at least, can you cancel the buy if it's not shipped before it is released.

I would hate to pay $1150 plus tax and shipping only to have it come out in the US for like $600-$800 before I even get it, or have it come out like 1 week later for much less.

Posted by: whtrbt7

@ TroLL

I suggest that you wait for the commercial release. You don't need the CodeWarrior aspect of the package right?

Posted by: Brimme

Wich langauges does the p800 contain ? can you put different languages on it ? For example Dutch ?

Posted by: whtrbt7

The SDK comes with UK english. There are different language packs that can be installed onto the P800.

Posted by: Brimme

are those languages included with the sdk pack ?
