SMT 5600 has Arrived!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Sweet my SMT arrived from XBM today and believe it or not I think it came direct from audiovox! It is completely unbranded, unlocked and has a generic sim card, the box says only auidovox, nothing related to cingular or at&t! Looks I really got lucky, no horrible cingular branding on my new phone, now I just have to transfer everything from my mpx and then flash it back to the cingular ROM and I think I;m in love with the smt (for now at least, hehehe) the screen "had me at hello" lol

I guess you and I are going to 'keep the balance in the force' so to speak...I got my MPx220 last week and w/ each day of using it, I get closer to being willing to unload my SMT 5600...I like it, but I'm liking the MPx220 even better...

Enjoy the new toy, it's a nice one...

I think you will like the SMT 5600.

Well, after getting everything installed (i think) I really like it, there are a few OS differenced, maybe because smt is ce2, other than that it seems a little sturdier than my mpx, just IMO feels a little more like a high end phone, but that's my opinion ( no flames please, lol) I will say that this nav-rocker will definately take a while to get use to, the mpx nav button is way more user friendly. I'll update some more when I get more accustomed to it...

What do you mean by 'ce2' ?

Just curious, I'm still comparing the 2 as well and I'm not finding very many differences, but it'd be nice to know what's different under the hood if you are finding things as well...keep me posted...

I'm still trying to figure out why IE won't load certain images on the MPx220 when it does on the SMT5600...

I wish I could run the SMT5600 w/o a SIM so I could easily compare file versions thru ActiveSync...I suspect the SMT must be running a different version of PIE, or have some kind of registry tweak that I haven't found yet...but swapping out the SIM card to do comparisons is a real hassle...

I got mine today too! I was hoping i was be getting a smt but cinglular didn't offer to replace my mpx with an smt 5600 so i didn't really ask for it. I got it today and I'm pretty effing happy. The smt is a much better phone. Ergonomics are crappy, but it outperforms the mpx220 10 fold. Thank you audiovox for not automatically sucking. I look forward to messing with WM10. I was a little dissapointed with the screen size though, i imagined it would be much bigger, but in comparison, its only about 2 mm bigger.

Start, Internet Explorer, Menu, Options, General, Language

Make sure its set to Western European.

........................................, Options, Connections

Make sure it is set to The Internet unless you are browsing the MEdia Net then you will need to set it to WAP Network...

See if that helps you out.

I had read somewhere that the smt had a slightly newer version of the WM2003 OS. What I noticed is the little animation when someone calls, different button layouts in some screens, etc. So far this little sucker is sweet!

Acutally it has an older version depending on the ROM version you are running. Since yours came from Audiovox directly I would assume its running the latest build. You can post your build number via the About screen. If you are using the ATT ROM then its an older version since it was the first Smartphones in the USA that had WM2003SE.

Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition Verison 4.21.1088 (Build 15102.3.0.1)

Now you may actually have a never version of Windows CE but I don't think there is a newer verison other than the one that Windows Mobile 5.0 is built off of. Of course I could be wrong but it is just a thought. It would be interesting to see if your OS version and or build is newer.

Oh can you describe more in detail about the animation you get when someone calls?

Posted by: Poopie

mine reads 4.21.1088 (build 15045.2.6.0)

Looks like yours is an older build...is this from the SMT or the MPx 220? Also what ROM version are you running on your device?

This is from a SMT

Operator: 2.0.42.10
Man: 2.5.42.40
Microsoft: 4.21.15045.0

Yea I guess yours is an older build if a higher build number and version number means a newer build...I am not sure of that though.

When I have an incoming call I have a box pop up with a cartoonish pic of a phone and mulitcolor background that is animated. Pretty cool looking...

Posted by: Omega2008

Oh ok I know what your talking about.....thats a animated gif...you can use those instead of regular pictures for caller id photo's....I have one of a anime girl jumping up and down......

Posted by: hylton

Yes, the higher build would indicate a newer version if MS is holding to the same versioning rules as all other windows versions...

I've got the same versions as Omega on my MPx220 (unlocked Cingular model), but it's b/c I'm running the same ROM he is, 3.46 Asian.

About screen w/ my MPx220

ver 4.21.1088
build 15102.3.0.1

My SMT has the following...phone itself boots with 2.0.42.10.

About screen w/ my SMT5600

ver 4.21.1088
build 15045.2.6.0

Nope, that didn't seem to help...but I do have some other medianet issues (can't get on after switching over to the MPx220, but I don't want to hijack this thread since it's not even about the MPx220...sorry about that...kinda got off topic w/ my original post...
