Is a cable a must for unlocking s710a ?

You could go to a cell phone store that has the equipment to do it. They would charge a fee though.

All my other samsung phones were unlocked by using a code and my imei number

you can try to have it unlocked through cingular

call them and say you're travelling for a while or something like that and you want to use their local sim. they should give you a code.

That's what I did. Cingular told me that as long as my account has been in good standing for 90 days they'd provide me with the unlock code which they did, for free! It took 7 days for them to call me back with the code after i had requested it, though.
