Corrupt MP3's????

I'm trying to add ringtones onto my friends v265 with MPT and a data cord. I've done it to my v710, but am running into two problems with the v265.
1. When putting MP3's on the phone, I try to play them but it says the file is corrupt
2. When putting MIDI's on the phone, I try to play them and all it does is begin to play but then immediately stop as if the file was 0 seconds long.
What's wrong/ what am I doing wrong?

Assuming that the v265 is also Verizon .. did you hook up the usb cable directly to the computer and NOT a USB Hub?
