New 650 User Needs Advice..........

I'm a long time (since Palm Personal 512K, to Pro, to T1, to T2, to T3..skipped T5 & LD) Palm user and am getting a Verizon 650 this week. I've never been especially good at file management and cleanup before because it's never really caused me problems. However, with this "fresh start" I want to do things right the first time so I can keep my device efficient as possible.

Here's the plan............

Get phone, install software and get it recognized, allow existing contact and datebook data to transfer.

Install Northglide's Uninstall Manager & CleanUp
Install PowerRun
Install BackUpBuddy VFS Pro
Install FileZ

Install all other apps I'm in love with....DateBk5 (with dbicon+ IconManager and Phone Button Patch) , ExpensePlus, Silver Screen, etc..............

Move as many apps to my 512mb card as possible!

Anyone have some advice as to what in this plan they would add, delete, or install in another order?

Thanks.........

My recommendations: Only transfer contacts and datebook and then use your Treo normally for 10 days just so you are sure that the device, at the very minimum, runs without resets and crashes and is problems free. After the 10 days, load up your other stuff and in the order you listed looks fine to me.

jmster: I have never thought of that idea before and am quite interested to try for myself when I get my Treo 650. However, I would probably be too eager to load it up with everything.

There isnt any special order to install things as the outcome would be the same. After you have installed everything, move most your apps to SD card. The obvious ones to keep would be your Datebk5 and apps you use frequently in your day. If you find yourself annoyed at having to wait for apps to load then those apps are probably best if they were in Ram as well. When you have about everything you need installed, its a good time to back it up. Let your hotsync back up things like addressbook and what not. I would say having 6-10 mb + Ram is good enough for your device to run smoothly and efficiently.

My used (new to me) Verizon Treo 650 arrived this afternoon. I activated via Verizon web site, did the *228 option 1 then option 2, no problems. Up and running in under 15 minutes. Dropped my 2 GB card from my Treo 600 in the slot, Restored from BackUpBuddy on the card, installed everything back from the Treo 600 to the Treo 650. I tested everything, it all works great, so far.
