MPx220 "fading"--anyone w/this issue?

I mainly keep my phone for road emergencies, and to call long-distance to an elderly father. Last time I called, my dad said at times during the conversation, my voice would fade out. I was using my Jabra Bluetooth headset. I turned off the headset, and spoke directly into the phone--he said it was better, but was still fading in and out.

Later, I tested it by talking on my phone, to my wife on her phone for about 30 minutes, w/no incident. I chalked it up to my dad's phone going bad.

Please note that during all this, I could hear on my end just fine.

But then I used my phone to call a friend. Right at the beginning of the conversation, before I even could identify myself, he said he couldn't hear whomever it was that was calling. I didn't have time to mess w/it then, so I hung up and called him back on a landline.

Yesterday I tested the phone for another 30 minutes, by putting it in front of the TV and calling another phone in the house. It never seemed to fade. I tested using both the Jabra Bluetooth headset, as well as directly from the phone itself. I did reboot the phone before doing this.

So I'm not yet sure if I have a problem or not (need to do more testing). Has anyone else encountered this? Up till now, no one has ever complained about me "fading".

I did recently upgrade the ROM from 1.30 to the newest 1.43, but I believe I made some calls after that, that were fine. Still, could the new ROM be causing some problems?

What concerns me is that my wife's MPx220 died about a month ago (different problem), and she's now using the Audiovox 5600. My phone is still under warranty, and I suppose I could get my own 5600, but I really prefer a flip-phone, and I do like the MPx220. I've read that Cingular is supposed to be re-introducing them, but I haven't seen them on their website yet. I know the MPx220 has had its share of "issues"--perhaps more than its share--which concerns me.

So has anyone had the "fade" problem? And does anyone know if and when Cingular will be re-intorducing the MPx220?

They already reintroduced them, just not to the general public; you have to go through NBO (National Business Office) to get one. I am not sure of software version, so I cannot say for sure if you have the latest ROM or not.

Will they be reintroducing them to the general public? Or should I not wait and go thru the NBO as you suggest?

Can I reach the NBO by calling Cingular and asking for that office? (Sorry for all the naive questions, but this is new territory for me.)

Finally, have you--or anyone else--heard of my possible "fading out" issue?
