e398: internet access from java applications

Hi

Has anybody ever succeded in using java applications that access the internet in the e398?

I have tried several applications and none of them could ever access the internet. I can browse the web with my phone with no problem in gprs or with csd connection. my gprs connection is not wap restricted.

I can even access my imap mail server and fetch mail.

I have tried webviewer, cellhtml, nweb, etc... none of them ever fetched a web page. I have tried different firmware: 98r and v398 (95r_a)

I've also tried to access servers with their direct ip address (if it is a dns problem) with no success.

I've not tried i398 yet. Is it true that the itune software is a java app accessing the internet? maybe it should work better with the e398.

Can anybody tell me if it works for you, or if I missed something?

Is there something special to be configured for java apps? does it use the default web session settings? I could not find anywhere the configuration of internet for java apps.

Thanks for your help.

You need an additional web session called JavaSession, that is what the Java apps look for when they connect. I don't have your phone, so I don't know for sure, but that is what is necessary for the V330 and V360, and many Moto phones. Try copying your GPRS websession to a new one called JavaSession, and go from there.

btw, what service are you with?

peace,
sam

It works now. Now my problem is to find a browser that can display big gifs (weather or traffic) and scroll into it. If anyone knows about that?

Thanks

What have you done to make it work? I know only one html browser. It is Mini Opera. You can increase and decrease quality of images thou..

Greetings!

I have the same problem...
Can connect via WAP, browse the internet, etc, etc...
But, whenever trying to use any Java application (e.g.: Google Maps), all I get is "You need a connection...".

What should I do? I´ve been reading these posts and have seem web sessions that should be named as "Java Session", "JavaSession", or simply "Java". What is the needed one?
Also, if I just copy my "GPRS" session as "Java Session" (or whatever the real name should be), how do I recognize the "GPRS" session? There´s no such web session with this name, and some of the sessions that I have in my phone contains the "GPRS APN" field with a URL specified...

Please help!
Thanks in advance,
Rubens

All you need i think is grant permission to use internet for that java application. Try to use MotoMidMan for installing Google Maps. ModoMidMan automaticaly grants all access for newly installed applications.

BTW i havent heard anything about WebSession named Java or Java Session.
