I am using a mac with OSX Bitpim 7.35 and a usb/serial cable from ebay. The cable is a KQ-U8A. I have downloaded the drivers for mac from Prolific. When I open Bitpim it recognized the cable but will not find the phone. Any suggestions?
Thanks

This is a very common problem. The solution is quite simple- get a PC.

I have tried using virtual pc, but it has not worked either. VPC has worked with all other hardware have use with it. Any other suggestions?
This is the message I get on the mac side.

An unexpected exception has occurred.
Please see the help for details on what to do.

by you buying a MAC, you opened a bunch of doors to un-needed confuseion. Get a regular PC.

And by running windows you open yourself to millions of people trying to hack your computer, tons of bloat code, poorly written software, and Clippy the evil office assistant! Solution: Get a Mac! Your best bet would be if you have an old pc lying around use that or borrow a friends pc. I don't see you running out to buy a pc just to use bitpim!

Something useful I thought of! Are the computer and the phone set to the same port speed? Try changing all the options on the slider....

Hope that it works out!

Thanks but I have tried changing the settings on the slider.

Dunno what to say then.... sure you don't have a pc laying around?

ok, i finally was able to view the filesystem using vpc and windows 2000. but that is all i can view. is there a way to add ringtones and such just being able to view the filesystem?

Hey mred13, these PC guy's are a lot of help, huh?! "Get a PC", to hack your phone?! What a realistic solution, gee, I'll just go out and spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on a PC because I want to customize my $39 cell phone. I'm in the same boat with you. Have a slider. Have a Mac. Bought a data cable. Want to set up mp3's on it but can't. And no one can help. My suggestion would be to upgrade phone next time around as I'm probably going to in a few months or hit up a friend with a PC so you can do the dirty work on it. The new phones have it all over our slider. Play mp3's, have cameras, take video. All our phones do is slide up and down and go "shhhhhhhhhoo" when we slide 'em. Food for thought.

I am now able to use bitpim to connect and add ringtones mp3's and pictures. I use VPC with windows 2000.

Oh come now. I wasn't saying buy a 1200 dollar PC... you should already have one! Don't pretend like this is the one and only first conflict you've had where your mac hasn't been able to do somethign a PC can.

Posted by: mred13

Hate to say this but, YES it is the first thing that I wasn't able to do right away. But now I can. I still will not buy a PC.
