OK I've seen a lot of posts saying you can't unlock by flashing your phone, so I wanted to start this thread to get the final word.
Here's what happened:
RAZR V3 - Cingular provider
Cingular 57R firmware
(stock Cingular setup from when the RAZR first came out)
The ONLY thing I did was modify some seems and reflash to the 9DR reflash from a couple months ago.
A friend of mine later popped in an AT&T SIM and it came up fine. So, was my phone unlocked?
Right now I have a new RAZR and I'm running the new iceman monsterpack and C3R_A. So I'm just wondering.. what exactly happened?

thats cause the first batch of cingular razr's came unlocked

Seriously? Why?
And if that's true man I feel shafted because I just had to trade it in for one of the new RAZRs.

All the phones that Cingular had were unlocked, then the merger with AT&T came along, and since AT&T locked every phone the ever offered Cingular got the wild idea to lock everything as well. :rolleyes2 Friggen AT&T.

I remember having to unlock Nokia 3390 and 3395 long before ATT
I even got a unlock code from Voicestream on a Cingular phone so I know they had some locked phones before ATT.

They started unlocking their phones once their world phones released. This is so that people travelling internationally on business could purchase pre-paid phone sims and still have them work in that country. Once AT&T merged, they started locking their phones. Not sure if they will go back to unlocking them again though. Seems like it makes sense to keep them unlocked...

I hate locked phones. Such a dumb idea. Why don't they just let us have the phone if we are paying for it? Carrier restrictions drive me crazy...
