I went ahead and bought one last night, it'll hold me out until the VS7 comes out (along with the Sharp 903 and the samsung D600)

See "Main Menu Icons"

Posted by: braindead5400

are those themes or just icon changes?

Posted by: uber0

How's the viewing angle on the phone?

Posted by: 4sinduct

those are just icons you can change the icons or just the background cause 9 icons will completely bloack out the back ground
- the view angles are fine nothing to complain about
-camera is pretty good(comparing to k750,s700, gx30,x800,nokia 7200b only phone pix i have on the comp at the moment) will post a few pix for you guys to compare in a moment

hm that picture isn't too bad. could you take one in natural lighting?

Posted by: braindead5400

Just got my VS3 like 20 minutes ago, initial impressions are VERY high. I haven't used it yet, or turned it on (its charging), but the phone is VERY attractive, I love it already

Posted by: 4sinduct

If you get any application games themes for the phone please let me know thanks

Posted by: totaltoanage

dude i have been trying to download games for this phone but nothing will play!! i tried all of the S700 games that works for the 902 but doesnt work for the VS3. Its really weird because it supposed to support java games but it doesnt play them. i hope ppl make games for this phone ASAP cause sonic can only do soo much.

Posted by: braindead5400

Mine came with a soccer game too

Posted by: braindead5400

So I've been playing around with it a little bit this morning. The screen is gorgeous. Jpeg wallpapers look different on this phone than they do on my 902, and they happen to look better. I like the screen on the panasonic a little better because not only do walls look better, there is a higher pixel density (same # of pixels as the sharp but in a smaller area).

The UI is nice, the camera seems average. I'll have to take some pics when i go on my lunch break today. (I'll be taking pics with both my 902 and the VS3 so I can get a comparison of the quality).

The phone looks a alot thinner than it actually is, putting it next to my 902 makes it seems thicker than when the phone is just sitting by itself.

Yea, the absense of bluetooth is a drag and it could really benefit from a memory card slot, but so far the phone seems like keeper.

16m colors, compared to 262k colors., its laptop LCD quality with similar brightness.

glad to hear it looks great. i wish it had expandable mem tho, vs7...

that would be great, i'd love to see sidebysides.

i woundnt say the screen on the panasonic is better. Sharps screens produce monitor quality, the panasonics picture quality is up to par as well but its kind of dull. The colors seem to have been toned down, whereas the sharps screen brings a lot of colors out esecially red. The brightness on the panasonic is crazy 300 candela. I bought it for my gf and she loves it. The VS3 is a great girls phone but the VS7/MX7 is another story for us guys.

Are you calling me a woman?

Anyway, I'm sitting here, looking at both the phones and they both have the exact same wallpaper. The panasonic is brighter and much more vibrant looking, skin tones look alot better and everything look smoother (higher pixel density). The only thing the sharp has that I wish the panasonic did is mobile asv because the up/down viewing angle on the VS3 is crap

Posted by: totaltoanage

yes

I as well compared the wallpapers and i see lack of color on the VS3. It may look better because the density is smaller on the VS3 but sharp puts out better color and is clear as well.

Posted by: braindead5400

I know what you mean, because skin tones look really different on the 902, but just because you see more color, doesn't mean its truer to color, the skin on the VS3 looks more real than on the 902

Panasonic screens tend to look more on the side of LCD panel screens rather than Sharps side of regular CRT monitor screens. Thats what i noticed when i compared both wallpapers on two different screens. I personally like the more color density from sharp. But i do love the VS3's 16 million colors. It looks more natural do the eye. Wow Im very impressed with Panasonic. They did their homework in the screen department.

hey brain, did you notice when taking pictures with the VS3, did you see a kind of light pink concentration in the middle of the screen.? Its not the screen, i think its a camera defect. Can you test it out, take a picture and post it up.

thats so unfortunate to hear. its a nice lookin handset.. but toronto really needs 850 in so many places... my other phone is a t39m and it works really well WITHOUT850 , but 850 is just so strong so much more of the time.

where did it cut out on ya?

Those are all the comparison ones I managed (I was really busy today and didn't have much time to try and take some really good photos).

Here are a few extra from the VS3

and now some pics of the phone

Posted by: braindead5400

Just like to add that I'm quite disappointed with my 902 today, some of the pics were terrible, I couldn't even get it to properly focus for a few of them

Posted by: acl88

thanks braindead!

those are some great pics for comparison..
i noticed whitebalancing is a huge difference and i am guessing that most things are automatic, as with most modern cellphone cameras now.

how do you like the user interface on the vs3?

i can see why you are dissapointed, the 902's 2mp looks humbled against the this new generation 1mp cameras. the building shot was bang on, with all those vertical lines it really showed the difference in each imaging sensor.

Posted by: braindead5400

I left everything automatic, I just pointed and pressed the button.

I REALLY like the UI of the VS3, I'm not quite sure why, but I really do

Posted by: 4sinduct

no singal at home , i have a n7280 and it has much better reception then the vs3 even with out the 850 so as v80 i have a gd88 as well and it has 0 signal i guess that's just panasonic

i think its because its just clean and functional. maybe its not like those LG's or Sony Erricsons that are boardlining Fisher-Price with their super-duper flashy UI's......coming from a gx32 or 902 i can certainly see it being a big step up.

You should try toshiba's UI.. I played around with a docomo 7xx toshiba that was yellowish cream color and its UI was beyond anything I had used on any other handset and made sharp look like they were made 5+ years ago.

I'm going to buy it tonight. plemi/x has it for 301 shipped (us) Who has the best prices??

Posted by: braindead5400

That seems to be the best price, its a hell of alot cheaper than mine, looks like the prices just went down.

I wonder if there are different versions of the phone. Plemix shows the phone with one extra faceplate while mine came with two, mine also has two games and two themes (as opposed to one game and three themes on the one gsmarena review).

Posted by: xplicitpin0i

how are the mp3 ringers on the phone?..a re they loud enough? do you think it could compare to a 6230 in terms of clarity and volume?.. thanks

Posted by: braindead5400

no////////

Posted by: xplicitpin0i

huh?.. does it even support mp3 for ringtones at all?..

Posted by: totaltoanage

man the reception for the phone kinda sucks. The person whos talking from a VS3 sounds distorted at times but the person using the VS3 hears everything clearly.

Edited: Yeah im going to return the phone as well. This phone sucks in reception i can barely hear my gf. Warning guys RECEPTION SUCK!!

So far, I haven't had any problems with reception, but thats only because I've been using my phone in saturated areas. I'll prolly keep it for the next two weeks and see how it performs in Milwaukee (I'm moving)

you're moving to Milwaukee? cool. my brother and his wife live up there. i visit up there every so often.

Posted by: braindead5400

I'll only be there during th school year, I'm starting at Marquette university in a little under two weeks

Posted by: 4sinduct

well if any1 here intrested my VS3 is up for sell

Posted by: Timsta

so total u don't like hte vs3? it seems the vs3 takes better shots at times.. my 902 takes wierd pics at times.. it can't focus properly or something.

how bad is the reception on the vs3?

Posted by: vladuz976

anybody know what menu languages the vs3 comes with?
does it have german? if not how can and where do you flash panasonic phones?

Posted by: totaltoanage

yeah vs3 totally sucks. the person listening from it cannot hear you well but you can hear clearly. if you dont care about them then get it but if you have a gf and talk to her every night, it blows. panasonic just got dropped from my top tier list of manufactuers cause they dropped the extended memory.

Posted by: braindead5400

Outgoing call quality hasn't been a problem for me at all

Posted by: vladuz976

my vs3 keeps showing a weird provider name "310 17" and i am with T-mobile usa.
anybody know if it is possible to change the softkeys for the standby screen? i wanna get rid of the browser on the right one.

Posted by: braindead5400

the provider name says that because you are roaming, mine did the same thing while driving to Iowa

Posted by: vladuz976

i am not roaming though, i am at home. that is why i wonder why it says that.
also, is there a way to just view phonebook entries from the phone? the phonebook is so inconvenient

Posted by: vladuz976

another big problem seems to be the speaker volume, i can barley hear ppl talking on the other end when i use the phone outside.
unbelievable how no one in noticed that and the primitive phonebook before releasing the phone. hopefully a firmware upgrade will soon fix some of that. stuff. i was interested in the vs7, too but i'll be careful about that now.

Posted by: braindead5400

The phonebook thing is the same way in motorola phones

Posted by: RedDiablo

Quote:

VS7 same as VS3 (including and phone book), Except for presence of the greater internal screen, external screen, bluetooth.

Posted by: vladuz976

that sounds like the vs3 either goes on sale then or is my last panasonnic cell phone.
really too bad, coz the screen is super nice. basically the same as my laptop screen.
but all those issues really make the vs3 a rather bad choice i think.

Posted by: mibu

what frequency does vs3 and vs7 use? 850? or 900? and what does fido provide?

Posted by: braindead5400

900/1800/1900

no 850

Posted by: nitzomoe

Quote:

VS3 is triband (900/1800/1900) and i think fido is 1900 only or 850/1900

Posted by: kanye

i think the main advantage of the vs3 is its price tag. 285$ is cheap for such a phone. at least compared to what the price tag is on nokia and se here in sweden.

Posted by: nitzomoe

Is there any software that one can download for the VS3 which allows the user to send/recieve emails?

Posted by: BMWFilms

how much do y'all think the VS7 will be?

Posted by: totaltoanage

400 but thats over stretchin it cause it doesnt have external memory. god panasonic really messed up for doin that. freakin idiot!!

Posted by: BMWFilms

i'd laugh if they announced a new model after the VS7 that adds external mem

Posted by: alclssus2020

where is VS3 manufactured in? some pictures showed czech republic.

The VS7 will have external memory though. It's supposed to feature support for mini-SD.

I personally think Silver goes well with white cover and LEDs.

Is new black with 4 covers, usb = $290 shipped good deal?

^^ bad firmware maybe?

I have no idea, but it doesn't bother me, there's just this little triangle, its not a big deal

I picked up a black VS3 today and I have to say i am very impressed, everything seems to be working well and reception is quite clear, even without 850. Only gripe I have is the volume quality its sooo low. Otherwise truly a beautiful device

do you mind if I asked how much you paid? lol...i'm considering shelling out for one but waiting on prices to drop down.

Posted by: nitzomoe

check ur message box, the price should plummet after the VS7 shows up. According to GSMarena ETA is Q1 2005

Posted by: BMWFilms

hehe I know...i'm waiting for that actually and I hope they resolve your low audio issue...email them about it. make them aware and they might release an upgrade

yes but no expandable memory card slot

Mine is having similar problem.
It shows Rogers rather than Fido. Always in roaming mode.
Even manual network search shows only Rogers.
Hopefully I will not be charged for roaming minutes.

Posted by: nitzomoe

mine says roaming too, but on rogers. You wont be charged for roaming. In terms of it showing rogers instead of fido, its supposed to be integrated so it should only show Rogers nothing else. I was wondering whether anyone found how to transfer games onto the phone?

Posted by: Giggs11

I just got a VS2 pink colour, but I don't know why I can't turn on the infrare.. anyone can help me with this??? please!

Posted by: BMWFilms

don't you have to pay roaming on rogers if you're on Fido's basic network? I thought it was like 25 cents per minute of roaming on rogers if you're a Fido person.

Posted by: dkny_boi

Yeah, that Rogers display is pretty much here to stay. It's different on different phones... like this N840 i'm borrowing now alternates between showing "fido" and "rogers"... while some phones show only rogers, or some show both at the same time.

Posted by: nitzomoe

just a note about the VS3 phonebook, recently I noticed all the phone numbers on my sim card switched from 7 digit to +1 and then 7 digits and the call display now works fine, has this happend to any fido/rogers users who have this phone?

Posted by: Timsta

dkny boi.. i only get fido if i use a nokia phone now.. but if i swap to a sharp phone.. it shows rogers all the time.. and if i use sony ericsson.. it jumps between to two....

Posted by: dkny_boi

Crazy... it must be depending on which sim card we have. On an 802se, mine would show only "Rogers Wireless", i forget what it showed on D500 coz i turned it off. N840 jumps between "ROGERS" and "Fido"... and now in the VS3 it shows "ROGERS" and "Fido" right underneath. Haven't had a chance to try in a nokia.

Funny thing is when the N840 had a rogers sim in, it said "Rogers Wireless" in white font, but with my fido sim in it, it'd alternate like i mentioned above, but in yellow font.

Posted by: uber0

Quote:

Yeah my N830 used to do that with my T-mobile sim card. When I was in MA T-mobile would show up in white but when I was in CA it would switch to US 17 or something like that and become orange. But my phonebill never showed any roaming charges.

I did it perfectly and but cant access the wap site directly instead I hafta set that as a hompage for Panasonic Box. Settings are in the Rogers FAQ section. Everything works fine!

Posted by: dkny_boi

Do you mean that you were able to edit the preset sites on the phone? (when you press the browser button... there's Panasonic Box, Hutch, Airtel, etc)

I'm trying to see if there's a way to change them on mine because other than panasonic box, everything else is useless.

Posted by: Dr.Spaghetti MD

Whats the difference between the Vs3 and the mx6?

Someone said that the volume isn't that high, is it loud enough to hear if you're driving in the car and the windows open and the wind is blowing on you? What about a large crowd?

Thats the thing I'm most worried about, I had a phone with terrible reception and even worse volume, I don't want to deal with it again.

I wish these damn things had flash. Oh well sacrafices.

Edit: How bad does the blacklighting look?

Posted by: alclssus2020

What is the SMS setting for Cingular Orange?

Posted by: dkny_boi

MX6 has a bit different cosmetic design, and has a battery with double the capacity (phone is also thicker to fit the battery). Same features otherwise.

I was able to make some mp3's louder so they were roughly as loud as my samsung D500 on it's 2nd highest setting. Which was loud enough for me in my car with the windows down and the phone in a glovebox-like compartment (highest setting on D500 made most ringtones distort).

Backlighting for the keypad is much better on the black version than the silver one in some reviews. It lights up the letters/numbers instead of the entire keypad. But most of the time those review pictures overemphasize how uneven it is. Maybe someone w/ the silver one can give their opinion.

hmm... I hate the look of the backlighting I think it looks so outdated.

I meant as far as speaker volume when you're in call how is it?

Posted by: dkny_boi

Sorry i meant to say the black one lights up the numbers/letters and not the whole button like silver ones... what i said earlier might've sounded weird. Green's not bad tho, i kind of like the green/amber lights now, the blue/white is kind of played out or too common.

Speaker volume is ok, not the greatest. I can hear with the windows down if the person i'm talking to is on a cell phone (they usually seem louder), but if the person's on a landline sometimes it's quieter. But then again, some ppl on landlines are really really loud too. I dont know what to compare it to... i've used phones that are louder before, but this one isn't terrible either.

I was able to enter the wap/internet settings for rogers as its onservice but to access internet/wap I had to enter the address of the rogers wap site or the site I wanted through Panasonic Box. I dont find it annoying at all since the homepage I set it to is the wap page.

Maybe someone w/ the silver one can give their opinion.

did you use a mp3 program on your desktop to increase volume or was it through the phone? I find that the overall the volume is very low, what sort of company would only have 4 different volume settings.

Sorry, the part that confuses me is when you say... "I dont find it annoying at all since the homepage I set it to is the wap page." Do you mean that when you press the browser button, then select Panasonic Box... it goes to your rogers homepage? Coz for me, to goto fido's homepage, i have to press browser button (which gives that menu of preset sites including panasonic box), then i have to press options, advanced, then home... and it'll goto the fido homepage. Or, i'll have to get to it through the bookmarks. The only site that's useable for me, when i just press browser, is Panasonic Box... all the rest are other provider's homepages that i can't use.

I used goldwave to cut the mp3s, and change volume. You can use it to add fade-in/out too. But yeah, initially, the volume was pretty low, so i had to raise the volume of all of the mp3's to be useable.

Posted by: nitzomoe

Sorry about that post I was confusing myself
I usually go to the browser and hit options on the left button and go to bookmarks and hit 1 for the homepage. I usually dont access rogers wap anywayz just my websites so thats why i dont mind going that way.

All i'm worried about is the volume during the call. GSM arena doesn't mention this.

Posted by: braindead5400

I find myself pushing the phone against my ear pretty hard when I'm outside

Posted by: nitzomoe

yea the volume is impossible to hear if you listen to your music at a significant volume, I use speakphone in crowds it does the job. thanks Dkny_boi for referring goldwave now the ringtones are louder than my v551

do you actually get reception with the vs3 on tmobile?
i use it with tmobile and can only receive cingulars signal i think. it doesn't even say a name just a number where the provider name should appear. the phone is always on roaming.
does it work for you?
where do you live?

Posted by: braindead5400

Its because you're in cali

Posted by: nitzomoe

is there any software available that can access the phones internal folder setup? I wouldnt mind shelling out a few bucks for this service as I have access to many java games but cant find a way to transfer it. Somebody suggested internet but will it work if I upload it to my own site?

you will have to enter wap/internet/mms settings for cingular into the web settings. Those settings are available in the cingular forum faq section i believe

Posted by: Giggs11

Anyone know how to setup a Fido MMS... please send a email for me please: giggs_y@hotmail.com

Posted by: dkny_boi

Check the fido faq... i swear i mentioned it to someone else before too in another thread asking the same thing. There's a step by step for the VS3 (same as the VS2) that should work if you follow it correctly.

Also, to check missed calls you can press "send" to see your last dialed list, then press left/right to view received and missed.

i cant surf net with my vs3.. hmm.. weird?

Posted by: Zenigata

Hey guys.. I just got a VS3. Liking it so far, haven't had much call/speaking experience yet though. I was just wondering, I want to pick up a screen protector, but I'm having trouble finding one for the VS3. Could someone point me in the right direction? Thanks much

Posted by: braindead5400

for the inside screen? That's kinda the point of a clamshell phone, you don't need a protector for the screen, unless you wear sharp earring or something

Posted by: uber0

nah, i remember my n830's screen got a scuff from something that got into my pocket while i walking. (some sand and dust) so now i always put a screen protector on my screen.

Posted by: VAsh13

My phone keeps showing that i am at a roaming area. This is really odd.

Posted by: dkny_boi

If ur using fido, it'll always do that. It's fine though.

I'm usig Cityfone is that ok too? then what happens if i really go out of town?

Posted by: dkny_boi

Cityfone is run by fido... you'd only have to worry about roaming if you went out of the country... and by then, you'll see something else like say "t-mobile" if you went to the states somewhere. Then you'll get charged roaming.
If you stay in canada, you'll just have to pay long distance when you go out of town... which you probably know where is long distance. So just ignore that roaming icon.

Posted by: VAsh13

For the vs3. I have the black version and i need a firmware upgrade for it. It is missng the menu icons customization and also my Irda does not work at all. When i turn on the irda it doesnt' do anythig and i see no symbol on the screen. My friend has the silver one and everything works fine with hers. What can i do guys?

Posted by: dkny_boi

How about trying to take it back to where you bought it for warranty work?

Posted by: VAsh13

bought it from somebody else =(

Posted by: akira112

Any of you guys able to enable the infrared on a vs2?
Every time I enable it it just automatically disables.

Posted by: VAsh13

got it to work on mine, but couldnt transfer anything cept pics and .mp3 files. Also i had to access the infrared in a very unorthodox manner on my computer

Posted by: VAsh13

Hey guys. i saw a chinese forum where they had all the different types of vs3 covers. I'm not sure but it seems that they make them in photoshop or somethign and print them out. The computer ones that are made look really really nice, but! I dunno how good they would look once printed out. Some people had pic but i couldn't tell how good they were. They seemed like any faceplate, but really nice. Anybody have any comments or ways they can make their one faceplates.

Posted by: dkny_boi

It'd most likely depend on the quality of your printing. Photo paper would probably work the best since sometimes regular paper gets wrinkly with too much ink on it.

I have a Panasonic VS3 and can't get data to work.

Here are the settings I have:
DATA Profiles:
Profile Name: MEdia Net
Account: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1
DNS: 000.000.000.000
APN Name: wap.cingular
Auth Type: Secured (can choose normal, secured or none)

WAP Profiles:
Profile Name: Cingular
Homepage: http://device.home
Proxy IP: 66.209.11.32
Proxy port: 8080 (have also tried 80 and 9201)
Use proxy: On (have also tried off)
Data connection: MEdia Net

I get a G icon indicating GPRS is active, but I get "Request Rejected" when accessing any site in the browser.

I am in Los Angeles (networks are T-mobile and AT&T depending on location).
I have the old $7.99 MEdia Net package, which works fine on my old Cingular provided phone. My plan is ~2 years old, so I have the 32k SIM (orange).
I'm upgrading from an ATT-branded unlocked Motorola Mpx200 (like the VS3, it does not support 850). Data worked fine on the Mpx200, except I had to reboot the phone every time I wanted to connect.

Any ideas? I've searched everywhere but haven't found any settings that work.

mines coming in a week or so, was this a wise decision on buying this phone? if so should I return it or sell it?

Posted by: iLL-Faded

oh and im wondering how do you upload songs onto the phone? do you need a data cable? or can you just sign up for WAP with your provider and make the clips and transfer it onto the phone?

Posted by: iLL-Faded

this is weird theres no call log? how would i find out the number who just called me?

Posted by: iLL-Faded

OK heres my review after going through alot, i did get some help but not alot.

-Pros: Brilliant Screen, slim light weight, x-changable covers so you can personalize, 1.3mp camera, auto flip

-cons: low speaker and external speaker, if its loud outside or theres a crowd its hard to hear, mp3 playback isnt that loud, even my friends moto V330 beats it x3, not that many functions, it was hard for me to find the last caller on my call log, preety pointless, MMS probs for me. On full function the batt life last around 2-3hours+talktime included.

overall- this phone is for show but no go. If you want a phone to show off get this, but if your looking for speaker volumn and what not then this is not the phone. I give it a 3 stars out of 5.

Transfering Data to the phone: VS3 supports IrDA (Infra Red) or you could transfer data using a cable and the handset manager software that is available at http://panasonic.co.jp/pmc/products...ware/index.html

Call Logs: To see call logs - press the Green Phone button (initiate call) once. Cycle through missed/answered/dialled logs using the 4-way navigation key (left <-> right to cycle).

Posted by: theoracle

Transferring songs to the phone: The VS3 has a file size limit of =1Mb (on some handsets it is 6Mb). If you have trouble tranfering a song (or any file) to the handset, check the file size. You may have a handset with the 1MB limit (I think it depends on carrier/country).

Posted by: victvchan

I think it does not support theme. Where as you can change the interface of the font color, cursur color, highlighted texr color operator, clock, date colors, and cant customized ( besides the preset ones ) the background. You can only change the wall paper, tones,& video plus the icon ofcourse. And you cant set long ringer tones as your "SMS Tones" it only support short tones. But for Calls no problem. If anyoe has discovered how to make themes for VS3/ VS2 Please do share it with us users. Theres no theme found in Panasonicbox.com.
Thanks to all and hope there will be new THEME SOON.
