Sorry, I don't speak a word of Spanish

The more interesting question is if the sim-lock in these phones will allow your American Cingular sim cards to work. Rememer that the 6682 is not unlockable!

Crosses fingers and hopes it's not in any translation websites! I think as long as it''s not english it's fair game seeing as this seems to be a mostly English speaking site.... I hope.

It is still not part of the United States...

As I stated, there are 50 states. PR is not one of them.

Si (Yes). I believe most of the Caribbean does also.

I knew someone would comment on my comparing PR to America as soon as I clicked "Post Reply," but I left it anyway.

I was not trying to start an argument or to say that it is or is not part of the USA. Because Cingular considers it a different network with different plans, they may lock the phone to their cards only. That was all.

America includes many countries including Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Costa Rica and even the good old US of A. PR is located in America too. America does not equal USA.

This is wayyy off topic, so why not throw my two cents of off topicness in? Not meant to argue... Just adding info.

I don't agree with your logic.

North America is the US, Canada, Mexico, et al.

South America is Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador et al.

Central America is Panama, Peru, et al.

"The Americas" is North, South, and Central America.

"America" is a almost a slang term for the United States. How often do you hear a Mexican or a Cuban refer to themselves as an "American"?

Also dictionary.com says:

Quote:
A·mer·i·ca ( P ) Pronunciation Key (-mr-k)

1. The United States.
2. also the A·mer·i·cas (-kz). The landmasses and islands of North America, Central America, and South America.

I had to bring this back from the dead because of the ignorant comments in here -- Puerto Ricans carry American passports and are citizens of the United States and are free to work and move anywhere they want within the 50 US States. The U.S. dollar is the sole official currency in Puerto Rico and the United States military maintains bases there and even a VA hospital for veterans, as there are many Puerto Ricans who fight in the US military as Puerto Rico doesn't have its own...Puero Ricans are as American as Iowans and New Yorkers. End of story. Thank you and have a nice day.

Don't be fooled by what Cingular PR/USVI post on their website. Most of the time a phone is being sold in stores for two months before they post it to the website. And after a phone is discontinued, it stays on the website for a couple of months too. When the 6682 got recalled, they didn't pull it off the website. I wouldn't be surprised if I ask for the 6682 in a store and they say it hasn't arrived yet (after it was brought back from the recall with the fixed firmware last month).

I've been waiting now for more than month and a half for the 2125 and they don't seem to show much interest in getting the darn phone. We don't deserve to get the high-end phones until they are stinking old news nobody wants anymore stateside. Yet, crappy phones like the ROKR and low-end phones like the Nokia 6030 get here quickly.

And just for "knowledge and culture", Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States of America with the same currency, same army, same US post office, same federal laws and same FCC.

And more on topic: Cingular uses the same network code as most of its US network: 310-410. It uses the same bands as it does in the US mainland so even a dual-band Cingular phone will work. San Juan and what is called the metro area next to San Juan has 1900 MHz coverage, but most of the rest of the island uses 850 MHz. There is no Cingular Blue as AT&T Wireless was divested to SunCom. Cingular-orange customers roam on Cingular. T-Mobile customers roam on SunCom by default. Cingular-blue customers used to roam on SunCom by default, but I don't know if that has changed recently.

LOL! You are so right about that!

Unfortunately, that is true.

Personally, I usually correct people when they refer themselves as "American", I just usually sarcastically comment, "..you mean North American..". If you aren't going to given an individual of African descent the "rightful" title of an "American" instead of labeling as "African-American" (or Asian-American or Mexican-American), then the term "American" shouldn't be used by anybody.

This is why Europeans (or the rest of the world for that matter) aren't too fond of North Americans, we think too much of ourselves. And yet, no other country has as many cultures and races as the United States. Oh, the irony.

To my understanding, because PR is considered a commonwealth, they don't use the same tax system as the states and don't pay federal income tax...so they're not the same as the other states.

If the next post is not on topic I am closing this thread for good.

Thanks!

Thanks!
since i started this thread, if my opinion is worth consideration, i support the closure.

it was originally meant in jest and to poke some light-hearted fun at the rabid interest in the NOK6682 when it first launched. that was an exciting and super-frustrating time in our meager, over-enthusiastic, hyphen-laden lives.

but then something weird happened yesterday and this once dormant thread went all hooey!

turn out the lights. if the fat lady wants to sing, at least we don't have to see her.
