sort of...delayed...will not be coming out in August for sure.

What's the delay?

I figured as much, but Nokia has been making phones for so long! I would think they would have the mfg process down with out a hitch by now. :rolleyes2

Posted by: boston_errol

this phone is actually outsourced and made by BenQ

Posted by: SellPhones

nothing official, but possibly a service issue, didn't meet network requirements, etc..Personally, I think they are wanting to use that phone's built in ptt feature, and the ptt has been delayed, again..but it's up to speculation i guess.

Posted by: spartacus13b

I thought that Cingular was not launching their PTT thru GPRS.... and as far as I know the 6102 has the GPRS PTT built in so it would not be compatible with CIngular PTT.... Other than that I have not seen anything about this phone yet.....

I figured, since the phone is not Nokia-esque at all

Posted by: what_up

It's silly how things turn in a year. Last year, it was Motorola with all the delays, now it's Nokia. Why can't these manufacturer plan better? Personally, I think, Nokia does not care too much about the North America market. They give more importance to the Europe and Asian markets.

Posted by: SellPhones

all these cool Nokia commercials and no phones???

Posted by: KaBaL666

from what we can gather locally. PTT is slated around the first of sept.

and they delayed the new Sony phone and Nokia 6102 (hopefully to coincide with ptt)

Posted by: I have a phone

the delay is puring coincidental, nothing to do with "waiting" for PTT

Posted by: eimajuno

It seems like Nokia is turning into Motorola when it comes to releasing phones. Tisk, tisk Nokia

In the other thread regarding Cingular's PTT, Stan Stigman is quoted from Bobolito's "Ask Stan" thread as saying that Cingular's PTT will be circuit-switched, which would mean not GPRS-based, wouldn't it?

Yes so then the launch of the 6102 would have nothing to do with PTT

I totally agree with you. I'm now in Thailand for couple of months, and I've already played with the nokia 6680/6681, 8800, N90, N91(iPOD-like), N70, 6101, 6280, 6270. But of course, the N90, N91, N70, 6280, and 6270 were all prototypes. Though the N90 is alredy been sold in Thailand for around 700 USD; slightly cheaper than the 8800.

I've heard August 15th is supposedly the date. Anyone else hearing this?

Posted by: WirelessAndy

If it's Aug 15th, I just might wait and hold off getting a 6170b. Of course, I doubt anything anymore.

I asked the gal at cingular both yesterday when it's coming. She said two weeks. Don't hold your breath waiting.

Posted by: spartacus13b

more like early sept...

Posted by: nwok2u

Rogers in Canada has the 6101 with the 850mhz band. I would think that the cigular model would be here soon.

Posted by: BWD

15th is here, looks like it's not gonna happen. anyone have an update for us?

Posted by: elushon

God this phone is getting to be like the elusive i930 from Moto...

Mid to late September is the rumor I've heard...But rumors are just that so who really knows.

Posted by: spartacus13b

Early Sept

Posted by: anubis9278

sept 7 "week of"

Posted by: iqwertyi

Got a circular yesterday from Radio Shack and they show the 6102.
Not sure if this is new or old news.

Posted by: rpk113

at the store on 47th and 5th in NYC there is a larger than life poster of the phone in the window.

Posted by: quillhill

Yesterday I was standing around in an agent store, waiting to do some business with the owner - but that's another story for another time - and up on the wall above the Cingular display table with the dummy phones there were two flyers. One for the 6102 and the other for the LG (c?)1500.
She was busy with a Nextel customer, come to think of it, she's always helping Nextel customers when I go in there. Hmm. Anyway, I didn't get a chance to ask her. I'd bet, though, they'd have to special order it anyway since they typically only stock the popular cheap phones.

Those posters were supposed to be put away till the phones are launched. They were bundled with the Back to School promo stuff, and there is a note on CSP to place those two posters aside until further notice. Neither phone is available yet.

Heh. That makes sense. It's an agent store with two locations and they sell everything in terms of carriers ... I like the owner, but, um the store is a mess. Details like 'put this aside until further notice' probably get passed over.

If they get my v551 sold by Friday as she promised -- I'm skeptical -- I'll ask when I go back to collect my cash. I will have to take a picture, too.

Posted by: mamosley

supposedly the beggining of september, cingular is finalizing their contract with nokia for this coming fiscal year, thats why the 6102 hasent been launched yet. the contract is supposed to be finalized this week.

Posted by: Sportcat

Any of you "inside" guys see a price yet?

Posted by: bigmike20

some online sites are selling the 6101 which is the same exact phone. So people that can't wait can always get it instead.

If it comes out for $89, that would be a really good price. It would be a great upgrade for me come January when I am eligible.

Posted by: JP

^^ lol

I thought we had it good here in Canada.

The phone is $49.99 on a 3yr and $99.99 on a 2 year and we got it b4 u....not to mention Canadian dollars = less than US

Posted by: DruB

who knows it will launch at that price though, all it said was comming soon and had that price under it, i havent seen that flyer in a week or two though so maybe some changes. . .i still dont expect the phone until mid october anyways

Posted by: anubis9278

release date 9/20

Posted by: shaneotoool

What is the appeal of this phone? Is it just because it is new? I looked at the specs and it doesn't look special. Looks like it is the same as a v551 with a color screen on the outside and a smaller screen on the inside. Did i miss something?

Posted by: quillhill

It's a Nokia. Aaaaaannnnnd it's a clamshell. My guess is some people dig the Nokia UI, battery life and RF, but loathe the candy bar form factor. So, ooh, a Nokia in a clamshell package. Yay! I'm not mocking the Nokia fans, by the way, because I'd be interested in using this phone, too. But that's because I have a problem. A phone addiction, if you will.

First Nokia flip phone. And they send a clone of V551 or V180. BIG FAT DEAL.

Posted by: mochachip

well I wouldnt get it because it doesnt appear to have bluetooth

I'm sure there are a lot of people who would argue that the Nokia name is enough to differentiate it from Moto. I wouldn't necessarily agree, but if you think about the average user, they probably wouldn't see it as a clone of a v551.

Between my wife and I, we have had 6 warranty exchanged v551s. If this is a quality phone, we sure haven't been convinced. We're two people hoping the Nokia 6102 ends up being a better phone than the Moto crap we have had.

We both had v60s and loved them.

Posted by: DruB

i beleive a early to mid october launch date will be happening

Agreed.

My wife still has her V60g, and will never ever part with it! She loves that thing. As for me, we all know how I feel about Motorola's GSM phone build quality as of late. (I still dream of an i530 equivalent.)

Sure the Nokia 6102 isn't gee-wiz gadget packed techno tour-de-force. But for the rest of us, it's another option to consider.

I haven't seen a 6102, so I won't pass judgement on it yet. You can bet I will once I try one out!

Posted by: ASimpleFarmer

i want the 6102. hopefully it will be out by october...upgrade time for me haha

Posted by: Sportcat

Suncom (a former AT&T wireless affiliate) now carries the 6102.

http://suncom.com/store/Equipment.j...s&zipcode=29621

If the link doesn't work, go to suncom.com, and use 29621 as the zip code.

$189.

Lately, a lot of the smaller carriers get new Nokia phones before the big ones.
example, the 6102 on Suncom b/ Cingular, the 6255i on Metropcs and Alltel b/ VZ.and more...
Why is that?

less red tape

Posted by: mamosley

keeping my fingers crossed for the 15th of this month for the 6102.

Posted by: nitzer51

IMO i think its kinda crappy that cingular and nokia go through so much testing, modifying, and delaying of nokia models.... i think the fcc should step in on branding that gets out of control

Out of control?

Out of our 50+ million customer, maybe 4000 or so are in the know and up on phone releases. If a phone gets released 4 months later than an internal document suggests, the FCC probably doesn't care that the consumer is sad that it was delayed.

I rather they test it thoroughly and make sure it works flawlessly, than having it rushed and getting a lemon in return.

Yeah, I'd rather wait than be let down.

The sad thing is, lemons still make it into our grubby phone luvin' hands. You'd think they'd be able to flush out a majority of the bugs, but I suppose sometimes you can't catch them all.

I agree, there's a lot phones that slip through the cracks, but I think 6102 will be a winner once they get the bugs worked out.

:cough: :cough: :SMOKERS cough: Motorola V600 :cough:

as stated before, 9/20 is the launch date...at least in the Northeast.

They will probably be in stores sometime between 9/19 - 9/22 at the latest. This phone is expected to sell like a champ. Its a Nokia, a FOLD (Nokia doesn't use FLIP as an adjective)...best of both worlds.

Posted by: bigmike20

It takes Cingular so long to release that phone. It's already on Roger Wireless in Canada and Suncom here in the states.

Posted by: bodeh6

After taking a hiatus from flip phones with my SE T637, I'll be going back to flip with the 6102. I just believe that certain flip phones look better/more professional then candybar phones. The 6102 in a plastic holster will be mine in a few months. Hopefully Nokia releases a holster for it. They did not release one for the 6170 though.

I take it that that has slipped through more than one crack.

Looks like tmo beat cing to the punch; they have the 6101 on their site now.....

Posted by: shortyd999

Ok, it was just mention over in the TM forum that Cingular will no longer carry the 6102 do to Q&A issues and now only TM will. Is this true??

Posted by: CingularEmploye

They are smoking crack! ITs coming out soon!! I won this phone getting it in a few weeks!

I played with a demo unit (not a dummy, a live unit) yesterday afternoon in a T-Mo store. It's a hot little phone. All the joys of Nokia in a clamshell unit. For those who love Nokia but hate bar phones, this is the ideal unit, I think.

If it goes to Cingular, people will eat it up.
