call forwarding questions

Well, I've half made the move over the Fido. But I'll still be keeping a Bell line I think.

when I set my Bell phone to call forward to my Fido number, will I still get callerID or will I get my bell # as the ID?

Also, will it use my normal allotment of minutes or is there some sort of forwarding pool?

Is there a time limit where forwarding comes off by itself or can I leave it forwarded indefinitely?

Even though you are forwarded you should be able to see the callers number.. mind you this isn't 100% because I've never done Bell - fido.. but Bell - Bell or Home Line or Rogers has shown the number just fine.

As for the way Call Forwarding minutes count depends on the plan.. if you are on just a regular all in one plan than you have unlimited forwarding to a local number. I doubt you are, but if you have a Business Canada or Busines s North American they count as minutes. So definately stick it in on a regular all in one..

I got offered the $25 Business All-In-One Nights & Weekends Plan when I called in to cancel. I said I'd think about it. I still am, and I'm considering my options.

So with that plan, how would call forwarding work?

and if I forward a call, can I just shut my phone off, and leave it off for 2 years (okay, every 6 months?) and let it continue its forwarding?

If you choose the AIO plan mentioned, the forwarding in unlimited. You just have to *72-416-xxx-xxxx (your new number with the area code) and send/talk to activate. You can leave it on for the balance of your contract. If you decide to turn it off then enter *720 send/talk to deactivate.

Caller ID will show up on your Fido number, you don't have to include caller ID on your Bell line for it to work.
Hope this answers your questions and if I may ask, why did you choose Fido?

I chose Fido...I get Rogers coverage (which even I have to admit improved alot in the areas I'm in) with a nice rate plan. 45$ a month, 250 daytime minutes, unlimited incoming calls (huge advantage here), night and weekends at 7, "enhanced" network free. 5$ more I have nights at 5, and 50$ unlimited data.

I'll be paying about 40$ less than at bell when I was on a corp plan with nights starting at 6 with free callID (long story...it's in another thread).

Although with the only phone call I've had with Fido, to order my line, was less than stellar. I got a rep who admitted he didn't even receive training yet. What the heck is an untrained rep doing on the queue?!

Nice.. How would you compare the two services..Please be objective because everyone likes the new girl more then the old until the new one becomes the old one too.??

ahhh, I keep a steady rotation of the same girls

But I'll let you know next week. My phones shipped, I'm just waiting to receive them. I have my sim card already

Also...is there any time limit for forwarding? OR will it always be active until I take it off?

I'm in the same situation - was with Bell, have another 2 years on a contract, but Fido was just 'calling me.'

I've setup call forwarding on my Bell phone over 4 months ago - only have to re-do it when I've cancelled my call forwarding.

Otherwise works great - caller id works etc. I forget that I even have a Bell phone as it is burried in my back pack.

mbt & XcOm - You two are paying for your Bell plans every month, plus the new Fido plans, right? So how much are you paying every month?

How come you decided to switch to Fido now, as opposed to waiting until your Bell contract was up and then switching (so you don't have to pay for two plans)? I guess if you were on 2 year contracts that's a long time to wait and at $199 to terminate it early you might as well just keep the plan. lol.

With what I spend per month at bell, the 199$ cancellation fee isn't what's keeping me at Bell. I just stay because I'm not sure about this whole Fido thing yet. Not to mention I have one sweet bell number, so I might just keep a plan until number portability comes into play

At Fido, I didn't get my first bill yet, but it should be about 130$ taxes in. I haven't calculated it yet

When someone calls your bell line, does it go directly to your fido line, or is there some sort of pause, then ring, then Fido finding your phone on the network, then ringing on your phone?

I'm trying to have some sort of seamless thing going

Oh, okay, I see. I would think Fido's service would be a lot better now that they have the 'enhanced network' with Rogers. I don't remember the last time I had a problem with reception with Rogers.

Also, what is the $25 Business All-In-One Nights & Weekends Plan that you mentioned above? I did a search on google but didn't come up with anything useful.

Just one last question : If my better half has bell2bell calling, will she be charged if she continues calling my forwarded bell number?

About that plan : it's a promo corp plan. They offered it to me when I called in to cancel

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7250/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

You should be aware of a "bug" with Rogers/Fido voicemail and call forwarding.

I sometimes forward my Bell personal phone to my Rogers work cell. Periodically, the voicemail system cannot identify which voicemail box to direct the call. So your callers may be confused when the call gets sent to your voicemail.

This only seems to happen when a call is forwarded to your Rogers account.

Thus far I don't believe a fix has been put into place.
