i don't know is this ture or not but want to know..
i heard from other phone forum saying that 902sh can direct use .mp3 files as ringtone, but the only thing u have to do is change the country code?

did anyone see that on the web?
i was confused, frist i was told to use .mmf, then drm mp3, and now can direct use mp3....****..

Did you try it? I would, but don't know where to change that country code issue...
Anyways, the mmf is working fine with me plus it helps me keeping moderated with my ringsounds (8Mb of internal memory, is not much... unless you always have the same card in to use its memory...)
To me the issue of using my own ringtones/mp3 ringtones is solved...
Regarding the da*mn pics (slideshow/full screen) is what's keeping me busy now... that and the java downloading issue... and the handsfree choice that could be done before ppl answering the phone - that one sucks... I think all those issues depend from Vodafone firmware and that alone...
These stupid limitations don't allow us to take profit of such a great phone like this...
Anyway, I'm still in my good faith waiting for a new improved firmware that corrects all this...

what firmware?

dm = mp3 files as ringtones
Chn and UK can set dm as ringtones.
Chn and UK can play non-drm mp3 as music
Jpn requires drm mp3 and card reader to xfer and listen to music

mmf has nothing to do with mp3. mmf is like a very very big and complex midi file. there are softwares that can convert wav to mmf. but you lose so much quality

problem with getting dm files to work proper is the size restriction of 200k. any decent quality songs at 200k is only about 15seconds max. so you might aswell use mmf as ringtones.

Posted by: Timsta

exactly. ther'es no point in using mp3 ringtones.. they so **** small

Posted by: GT-[R]

but there is mmf restricton of 300k
which is like, under 30 sec?
im sure if u reduce the quality of the mp3 to like 96kbps and mono, u will be around 200k for 20 sec of mp3...

i shall try and upload one to my phone... with mmf, since its converted from a wav file, any bass will sound horrible from what ive tried

Posted by: Timsta

if you make one. send one to me gtr. i have free downloading right now. so i can test the drm ringtones.

Posted by: uhoo

There doesn't seem to be a size restriction on .dm ringtones. I've got a 1 meg .dm file as my ringtone. Only limitation is the size of the mp3 ringtone, cause it has to be stored in internal memory. Can't store much in 7 megs.. Oh and GPRS charges of course..

Posted by: GT-[R]

how do u add drm protection to an mp3? or can u send any mp3 size at 200kb to the phone? will try it now

Posted by: Timsta

i was using sony ericssons mobile software to add drm to mp3s.. i also tried using nokia's software.. whcih only worked once for me.

Posted by: GT-[R]

whats the sony ericsson one called?

Posted by: GT-[R]

nm i got it
it converts my mp3s to dm...
but when i upload them to the phone it wont play the file... hmmm

Posted by: manato

how did you upload to phone? you can't copy dm files to the phone. it won't work

Posted by: Timsta

u have to send it to your phone via wap for it to work gtr. which song di you make?

why does it have to be over wap?
cant i just upload with a memory card writer? do i need the DRM folder and the rights folder as well? cuz i dont have wap haha

i just made a short clip of slow down by bobby valentino

Posted by: Timsta

oh.. slow down. good song.
yah. it has to be over wap.. unless u have the panasonic sd card reader. which lets you upload to the phone.

Posted by: kinmod

I am trying to upload mp3 ringtone into my phone, I use the SE DRM packager to make a .dm file out of it but when I try to download it via wap it says "file too large"...and its only 234kb...at 64Khz sampling....

Posted by: totaltoanage

yeah i tried it and it doesnt work.

Posted by: kinmod

Ur...u guys that got it working....do we have any other constraints to worry about?

Yes.. Like java apps on the 902, when you change your SIM card, the mp3 ringtone doesn't work anymore.

Posted by: Timsta

yup.. its sim locked... crazy eh?

as for drm ringtones. make them SMALLER! and the use a lower quality of file too

Posted by: CACCUM

Do you know if flashing it solves that sim locking issue with java? What about the apps? after flashing can you upload them or do you still have to download it thgough the d*mn wap?

Posted by: kms-lai

has anyone tried using sd audio (SA) as ringtone

Posted by: Timsta

how do you make it?

Posted by: kms-lai

you need the panasonic card reader/writer with sd jukebox software

Posted by: Timsta

ohh yha. that stuff.. sigh. i never ended up gettin the card reader.. i figured it was another expensive toy to get. but i think with th e903 coming out. we'll still need that card reader.. what you think?

Posted by: kms-lai

yes, you will need it, I got one yesterday for HKD260 with sd jukebox.
I'm just using it as a normal expensive card reader, but the quality is very good.

the sound output is in sd audio.

Posted by: Timsta

260 / 6.. 40 bucks or so canadian. thats not bad. where did you find it? in MK?

Posted by: kms-lai

I got it in mk somewhere, the price should go up anytime because of the toshiba and sharp.

info according to some of the phone unlocking people

Posted by: Timsta

hrmm.. ****.. i need one of those. can i troulbe u to find one for me?

Posted by: kms-lai

where i got the card reader it cost HKD 270, but i got two of him so he sold it less HKD 10 each, it is'nt much but it's money.

other shops is selling them for around HKD 350-HKD 400

pm me if you need more info

Posted by: Timsta

ohh.. nice.. i'll pm ya tonite. thx man.

Posted by: kms-lai

just some info on the reader and sd jukebox.

the software will work with any panasonic player/card reader. certain model mp3 players double as a card r/w for sd card.

sv as10,30,35,50

sv sd70,75

j sh51,52,53

so this reader is not necessary if you can get the above in your country.

the card must be formatted to sd spec with the software in order to put sd audio music file, and is readable by sharp and tos mobile phone, and most phone from japan.

Posted by: Timsta

wow. cool. i never knew that. something new learned today. i like wasting my entire work day on the forums.

Posted by: kms-lai

those model numbers are the players itself, some of them have built-in r/w and some is supplied with a sd r/w.

i have'nt seen the players itself, the numbers is taken from the sd jukebox s/w at a section where the card needs to be formatted.

but i think the sd jukebox needs to be used with a panasonic item, the sd jukebox does not read from other branded product.

Posted by: Timsta

ahhh.. gotcha. probalby only usalbe with panasonic mp3 players or those handheld devices they have. that are a camera.. camcorder and mp3 playe rin one

Posted by: kms-lai

no, no camera, only mp3 players that has a sd card slot, and is supplied with sd jb s/w.,not realjukebox

Posted by: pibrahim

Can you guys elaborate on the mp3 issue?

When you refer to SD card readers - I have a generic 7 in 1 card reader which reads SD (same size as MMC?) cards. Will that do? Do I just need to get hold of software then to convert the mp3 format?

Secondly; is this 200kb size limit just for mp3 *ringtones*, yeah? Can I still have normal mp3s on the phone (to listen to, not as tones)?

Posted by: pibrahim

Have discovered that it has to be a Panasonic SD card reader/writer, not a generic one...

Found a reader/writer on eBay. If I get this, what then do I need to do - do I still convert songs into .dm format? And the same Q as above - can non-ringtone mp3s be any length..?

Posted by: Timsta

yes.. it has to be a panasonic reader. yes.. if u bougth the overpriced on ebay. u sould be able to convert songs into .dm format. then u have shrink them to 300k or less in size so they become ringtones.

non mp3 ringtones can bge any lenght
