Making your own ringtones on the 8100? Newbie here.

For my birthday I got the new LG 8100 phone today and a mini-SD card to go with it. It's a nice little phone, especially when compared to my previous one. I was told by the Verizon Wireless guy that sold me the phone to check these forums out in order to learn how to hack into the system in order to make my own mp3 ringtones. I've looked through and found some info, but I'm a complete newbie when it comes to this cellphone hacking stuff. However I know some people have been successful in making their own ringtones. Can someone point me in the right direction as to how to go about doing this? As in what software I may need and what (if any) accessories I will need.
