Help getting razr email client enabled on t-mobile

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: dgbweb

Hi all,

I have a razr v3 through T-Mobile. The email client is apparently crippled so that users cannot use it for pop3 access. It is only capabable of receiving email alerts from tmobile's website.

My old Sony/Ericson t610 did pop email through t-mobile's network fine.

On my tmobile Razr, there is no WebSessions menu option under Setup, and the only settings I can find for the email client are in the Menu->Messages->Menu->Inbox Setup where the only relevant options are "Svce Center No" and "Email Gateway" number.

I cannot find any menu options that will let me specify a incoming and outgoing mail server anywhere.

Can somehelp tell me how to enable the email client to work directly for pop3 mail access? I've installed PST and P2KTooks but have not modified the phone in any way yet. I would like to avoid flexing or flashing the phone if at all possible, but may be willing to try seem editing.

Please Help!

Darren

Darren ...

I'm about to give this a try tonight. See my other thread here in the forum. Looks like Motokit is the way to go as far as editing programs.

I'll let the group know if it works out.

under messages menu > email settings:
isp settings: GPRS
email provider: custom
Protocol: POP3
User ID: "your gmail username without the @gmail" without the quotes
Password: your gmail password
Sending host: myemail.t-mobile.com
Sending port: 25
Receiving host: pop.gmail.com
Receiving port: 995
Return address: "your full gmail address" without quotes
Name: "whatever name you want used as the name you want to show as the name next to your email address (like joe in joe <joeshmoe@gmail.com>" no quotes
Cleanup: "whatever you want - i use none with no problems"
Save on server: "has no effect since gmail ignores it so pick what you want"
Notification: On
Check new msgs: "whatever you want - i use 1 hour so my razr checks for new gmail every hour"
Hide fields: "i leave blank"
Auto signature: "i leave blank"
Security: "select Change then:
Use SSL for sending: No
Use SSL for receiving: Yes
Warnings in Background: Break connection
then back out to previous menu"
Size restriction: 65535 "max i've found to work"

and i've had no problems getting my gmail to work. if i get a really big email sent to my gmail account i may not be able to download it to my cellphone but it doesn't stop me from getting any other emails. the status update will just say "received: (#) unable to receive: (#)"

hope this works for you.

So, anyone find out which seem's or files to edit with a std p2k editor?

Posted by: JadedSoul

i tried the gmail thing, it didn't work for me, do you have to have tzones $5.99 plan for this to work?

Posted by: ScionFriar

I did this a few weeks ago...once I got all the pieces of instructions together, it was pretty straight forward.

Use P2K to download and upload the seems to your phone.

Use motorola-tool: http://bluedevil.info-mob.com/files/motorola-tool.zip

This is a GUI for seem edits. Great tool. Edit 0032_0001.seem. Under Message menu, check E-Mail Messages. Save it, and then upload it to your phone.

Enjoy!

Thanks, it worked perfectly. Now if I could get that stupid Gmail SMTP server to work/send properly...

from your actual gmail account on the web, go to settings > pop and forward. make sure you set it to "from now on". keep in mind if you get an email too large for your cellphone to download, you will see that error until you download all the messages you can, then go back and do the "from now on" setting again, or you'll see that "did not receive: xx" forever, because it's true, your phone skipped it because of size, and is telling you to go on the web and check your mail that way or you're going to miss an email.

try selecting "from now on" in gmail and then sending your gmail account a small email. send/receive pop email from your cellphone. if you're still not getting the email then it needs troubleshooting, but you *should* get the small email at least. good luck.

not sure why something would work for a bit and then stop. are you changing things between it working and it not working?

also try resetting "from now on" in gmail again if you're having trouble with gmail pop that's not working. from your post it's hard to tell what's not working.

Posted by: daweeze02

ya turn pop off then on seemed to fix that issue.

Posted by: daweeze02

looks like i can send MMS messages fine, but i just want to send text messages(short message) these are the ones that wont send

I keep getting "Connection Unsuccesful. try again later" after I press Send/Receive on my RAZR. I have the 5.99 T-Zones. Does this have abything to do with my websessions?

Posted by: mopi

make sure you enable "From now on" under Pop and Forwarding section in your settings in your actual gmail web site account by hitting settings link, etc. then try send/receive on phone when you get a new email. i am not sure if you can pop an email you send yourself from the same gmail account. i haven't bothered to check and it's late and i'm tired if this doesn't work, i'll give you different gmail settings to bypass t-mo altogether, which i've since done. and if that doesn't work, well then you're into editing web sessions, which is fun for me but a tiny bit more scary for the technophobic. anyway, good luck.

edit: blah i just said what was said before your post - serves me right for posting this late - if connection is unsuccessful, maybe you've got a typo in the port number, or you're not set to you security properly. skim down to the security submenu section and make sure all values are entered properly. if they are, post again and i'll get an email tomorrow letting me know you posted and i'll see what i can do to help. in the meantime, write yourself an email from the phone, and try to send it to yourself before you send/receive. i want to know if the problem is definitely with gmail or with t-mo. if you get the email at gmail, it's a gmail pop problem from your phone. if you can't send the email from your phone, it's a smtp problem between your phone and t-mo's server, and i can fix that because i'm gonna give you settings to use gmail's server. anyway that's for tomorrow cause i'm shot. good luck. lemme know when you've tried this out.

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to say thanks! It worked for me on my RAZR V3 for comcast. (Obviously I had to put the appropriate comcast settings in place of the gmail settings.)

I also have gmail, I may switch the phone to the gmai account.

It be nice if this thing would support multiple accounts! Instead of just one.

Anybody know a good email client for the razr that does nor charge a monthly fee? I don't mind paying for a solid email app, but I don't wanna pay a monthly fee. I'd rather just pay like $10-$20 up front.

I can do all of the email settings correctly, except for the "ISP" settings.
Yes, it's set to GPRS, but there is nothing in:
APN address:
User name:
Password:
DNS IP: 0.0.0.0

If all of these settings are unnecessary to check email, then why does it keep saying I still have to setup my email client before I can check email?

And the ports you guys gave are different than the ports gmail gives for pop access.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Hey All, I'm in the same boat... Now unlocked Razr, previously T-Mobile and now on Cingular. I assume I need to use this motorola tool from above (http://bluedevil.info-mob.com/files/motorola-tool.zip), but the link no longer works. I can't access or save it. Any help would be appreciated, as it seems like this is what I need to set up a pop3 account on this phone.
Thanks In Advance!!!
