Windows Mobile?

Posted by: mc87243

Nice phone but i wonder how much it will be when it comes out?

Posted by: dolo

Hmm...would it be drifting too far out the box to think the inside shot shows a possible TF/microSD card slot?

With the influx of Sammy's with 2mp cameras, it would have been great to see one thrown in on this. Windows mobile would be a nice addition then the typical OS!

On the bluetooth qualification sight, it showed that this was approved for qualification on 8/4/05. Looks like this will hit the marketplace ~Q4?

Tuolumne, any insight on the sgh d55 and the BB support?

Again, great insight and thanks for sharing!

Regards,
dolo

this phone is on the July-august price list for Cingular. I saw it on there (listed as "Qwerty" d307 Samsung) and phonescooped it but came up blank. It's a nice looking phone, but I just can't handle samsungs. period.

Posted by: nskgti23

Definite no on the Windows Mobile front.. Although I'd like for it to have WM5..

Posted by: aresthoth

Looks good. Any more info on the full specs? WM 5.0 and class 10 EDGE would elevate to this to my must have list. In fact, any smartphone OS and class 10 EDGE would get it on the list. My only concern is that both Samsung and Cingular are notorious for delays or out right cancellation of devices.

Posted by: tuolumne

No idea on the EDGE classification, but it does not have a TF card slot. It does appear to have a monochrome exterior LCD display also.

Forgot to post the full opened photo...

That samsung looks hot. It might be worthy enough for me to buy it.

EDIT: Where is the camera?

Posted by: dolo

tuol,

thanks for the follow up.

bummer on the no external mem.

the wait continues...

dolo

I would prefer if it didn't have a camera, if it actually doesn't. I know of far too many places where they don't allow camera phones. I have been looking for a high-end phone/device without a camera.

Agreed; that is a bit disappointing, but I still interested overall.

I hope this doesn't suffer the fate of the Cingular A630...

Looks good!

Ah, don't say that. I do hope that with the lack of expandable memory that Samsung includes a good chunk of memory; otherwise, I might have to pass on this one. By the way, tuolumne, keep those updates coming. I appreciate the info.

Nice find on the pics.

While I dont think this will be quite enough to be Cingular's answer to the Sidekick, its a start.

Is it me, or does it look really thin for what its packing?

Posted by: hesh

I'm bumping this thread because I really want this phone

I can live with no camera because I barely use mine anyway.

Anyone have any ideas on the release date and/or pricing? I think a couple of people close to Cingular have said it's definitely coming out and it's been in the latest marketing stuff, so I can only imagine soon.

Not a bad feature set. Have you seen any info on the memory, such as how much does it have?

Posted by: hahnyc87

great phone but i still think this thread should be in the sammy forum

Posted by: .7

That would be like saying the Nokia 6682 and ROKR threads belong in their respective manufacture forums, in the end why have a phone forum if I apply that standard to all threads?.

If the phone had no relevance to Cingular, that would be another thing. However, since its all but common knowledge that its gong to be with Cinuglar, I feel its relevant here.

Posted by: donniegood04

anyone have a idea of price point, this is going to be my next phone as a secondary to my s710a

Posted by: Omega2008

The keypad was a dead giveaway that it wouldn't have Windows Mobile. That kills it for me.

Posted by: jsmcguir

i played with one today at an all employee meeting. I didn't take any pictures. it was way more solid than i thought it would be. the dual flip worked great. but when it was flipped open sideways (for texting) I couldn't access anything except for messaging related stuff (i.e. couldn't get to games, menus, phone, internet, etc...). Also, the button layout will take some getting used to (the menu softkeys are in their normal place, but they don't look like softkeys since one says "q" and the other says "z"!). but it does have bluetooth...

i think i might have to get the bluetooth keyboard for my 6682.

The Sammy D357 will be a PTT phone not the D307 as seen in this thread.
sometime the close model numbers can get confusing.

This phone make me happy in pants!

well if it does not have palm os or windows os, the device is kinda useless with such a wonderful design!

I don't think it's necessarily useless. Some of us would like to have a qwerty keyboard for text/IM without having to buy a PDA/smartphone

Posted by: tuolumne

Moreover pay for it!

Posted by: hesh

Anyone have any new news about this phone as far as release date and pricing?

Posted by: dmorand

I'd like to know as well.

Posted by: donniegood04

me to cingular gave me the run around and told me to call samsung and they said they cant tell me anything until cingular releases it

Posted by: johngotti

Is this phone part of the PTT rollout?

Posted by: donniegood04

no not that i know of as far as i know the ptt is the d357 so it shouldnt be delayed

Posted by: hesh

Hmmm... not sure if the local stores know what they're talking about, but one store just told me that Cingular isn't getting this phone. The chick I spoke with said all the new phones they're going to be getting this year, they've already gotten.

I guess it's possible that the release has been pushed back, but she was pretty sure Cingular wasn't going to carry it.

If this is true, this make me very sad in pants!

Posted by: donniegood04

I gave up on asking reps in stores but one call center rep said possibly middle of this month since it is on the rebate forms

Posted by: hesh

That's good news. I was fearing the worst lol

Posted by: dasupaman23

I just noticed that it is available on cingular.com. It worked with zip 91367. Has anyone else noticed?

Posted by: rotoplewker

Available in 15238 (Pittsburgh, PA)

>>I guess it's possible that the release has been pushed back, but she was pretty sure Cingular wasn't going to carry it.<<

Some reps think they just know everything but in reality they dont have a f***ing clue about whats going on. DOn't listen to them . . .EVER!

It's showing up in my zip code too, 28262. I wonder if it's just available online or if I can go into a store and get it?

And what do I tell them? That I want to just by the phone and not activate it because I already have a phone (& sim) through them?

Posted by: Alboogie7

, yup, available in new york 10970

Posted by: Sportcat

Available in 29621... but that sucker is hideous azz-ugly!!!

Posted by: kilowatt

i want one.

Posted by: dasupaman23

I'll wait till they hit ebay to pick one up. It can't be as bad as the lg f9100 can it?

Posted by: kilowatt

this phone is mos def better than the 9100.

Posted by: smr2112

The Samsung SGH-D307 is now showing on Cingular's website.
I'd be interested to hear first opinions. Price is $250.

Whomever is brave enough to jump on this one, please
give some feedback.

Posted by: dolo

doesn't look THAT bad. Surprised it doesn't have a tf card. Samsung's built in mp3 players are pretty decent relative to other phones.

dolo

Any more info on this phone? Kinda bummed that it doesnt have a camera, but are you able to use the keyboard with the WAP browser?

Posted by: jjgainer

Expanding on the previous questions, does the keyboard work with the calendar and contact apps, wap browser, other phone functions or just e-mail/text messaging?

Posted by: smr2112

I picked up a brochure a week ago at the store. It does
say Edge 10, no camera (OK with me). No word
on if the keyboard works everywhere. I am also curious
if the PC sync works with Outlook and does full addresses.

I think I read in other posts about this phone that the keyboard does work with the calendar and contacts. Don't quote me on that though. I would hope it does!

As far as it not having a camera, that's totally fine with me. This would be a great "work" phone as camera phones aren't allowed into some of our more secure data centers. I rarely use my camera anyway.

Posted by: JDyn84

I have one other question, what type of app does this use for the AOL, YAHOO, ICQ chat? Is it the Mobile IM, or some cheesy app similar to the AOL app on the phones now? Or is it something totally new?

Posted by: hesh

Any in-store sitings of this phone? I know a lot of you don't put much stock into what the store reps say, but the rep I spoke with said it may not be in stores before the first of the year. He said the new Samsung PTT phone should be in stores by mid November so it's possible the D307 will be out by then. Sounded like a pretty general answer and threw in the "mid November" bit to kinda cover his ***. Oh well.

In an effort to keep all the info in one place, please contuine this discussion on the main sticky.

thanks
