the title explains it, i am asking because i am looking at phones that allow you to see all of the buddies on your regular buddy list, not the mobile devices list that only lets you see 30.

Agile Messenger is an app for smartphones.

There's a list of compatible phones on their website. Not only does it connect to AIM, it also does MSN, ICQ and YIM. It really is an excellent piece of software.
