Ok,

I know AIM uses SMS. Is it possible to configure one of the Future settings to connect to AIM using GPRS?

So far I have got to the point where I just get a bad User ID error.

Here's my settings:

GPRS Address: http://aol.cwmim.com:1171
Text msg. number: 1112470100
Bearer: GPRS

I tried these settings for the User ID / password

User ID: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1

I've made progress to the point where it actually connects to the server. I just can't get it to log in.

Anyone have any thoughts? Please don't tell me that it's not possible and I have to pay for some thirdparty java app.

That sounds like you would have to put your AIM user name and password instead. Have you tried that?

IM over SMS is the option at this time

No, I don't think it's the AIM login and password. There is a different section for that. It's the login and password for getting to Cingular's old GPRS AIM connection.

just found this post, didnt come up in a search for some reason so i had started another one. i too was just trying to figure out if AIM was possible on my new 6230. Is this a phone thing or a cingular thing (ie does the 6620 support it?) - sure would be nice.......

I'm pretty sure it's possible. It's just a case of Cingular blocking it. You see, it used to be enabled on their server. In fact I found the old settings, but the username and password seems to have been changed.
