I stopped by the Sprint store again yesterday (just had software upgraded 2 weeks ago) because of that annoying caller ID problem..and they made me wait way too long and told me that they had to upgrade the software (to 1.108)..well Im glad I tested the caller ID while I was standing there, because that STILL didn't fix it. The rep was pretty helpful though. He said that they would ship me a new handset... and to call back today..so I did and there were none available as of today..he said tomorrow he will check, and if there are none, they will replace it with a comparable or more expensive phone... which one should I shoot for? I liked my 5150 but I want a phone with caller ID that works..
from reading a few msgs on here just now it sounds like people have serious complaints about the speaker volume on the sanyo 5300... any opinions on the Samsung A500?

thanks

I accidently cracked the outer lcd on my SCP-5150 and can't see the screen anymore. It still lights up but now it's bleeding under the glass . I enrolled in that lockline replacement program Sprint has and called in for a replacement. Took 4 days to get a replacement phone, only to find out that they replaced it with a Samsung A500! Even better? They mailed the charger separately! Called the number I used to file the claim and asked them how I was supposed to use the phone? Rep said I should recieve the charger in another 5 days?!? I also told the rep that I was told by the first rep I filed the claim with that I would given another Sanyo 5150. Rep: "I'm sorry sir we don't have any in stock right now so, you were given another comparable phone."
Told him it wasn't acceptable and that I would be returning the A500 because i'm not going to wait another 5 days to get the charger and in the meantime deactivate my Sanyo phone. I was also charged $35 for the replacement phone which was non-refundable . After reading this board and the reception on the 5150 I can't give it up . I can sort of live with the cracked caller ID screen. Samsung phones just don't work for me. Been to Japan and saw a lot of Sanyo phones that were just like the 5150. Sanyo phone is definitely the better product: reception.

Well, first off, I'm not too sure if I should keep this lockline replacement plan? It's another $4 a month on my SprintPCS plan.
Lot of talk about Best Buy Insurance and Circuit City Insurance. Which one is worth it?

Here's a pic of the Caller ID display.

That's a bummer.

I think the insurance is good thing in most cases but, if you are attached to a certain phone, they should really try to accomodate you.

I love my 5150 and right now I will not go to a "3G Vision" phone. (Tried a N400 for a few weeks and just tookit back, too many problems.)

I think sometimes some of the stores have some parts for all phones. I think they just have to be dug up.

I called the local SPrint store back to check on the availability of the replacement 5150s..still none... so he mentioned a 4900 and samsung a460..and acknowledged that they are much cheaper phones.... if I can figure a way to solve the caller ID problem I could just keep this phone..but so far I've found no answers anywhere, including the web.

Thanks. Interestingly, my caller ID SEEMS to be working properly now. I thought to clear the phone book and resync once again (since the 2nd software upgrade to the phone).
Does one need to have a Sprint Vision plan to use the basic phone functions of a Samsung A500?

You do not need a Vision plan to use the 'basic' functions of the phone. Although, I wouldn't go with the Samsung. I have heard from SEVERAL Sprint reps that Samsung is the ones they see the most come back/returned.

I had the A500 and didn't like it very much. Had good earpiece though. Phone got SO hot when I used it for longer than 10 minutes. My 5300 doesn't, unless I'm talking while it's charging. And even then it doesn't get as hot. The reception (for me anyway) is alot better too. I use an earbud 99% of the time, so I don't have a problem with volume. But, I hear that you need the phone positioned 'perfectly' for the sound to be loud enough. I don't know though.

I had the 5150 and REALLY missed it when I switched to the A500.
