Hi all I know that this might not exactly pertain to the RIM forum, but I am sure that a few people in here know what I am talking about and might be ble to offer some help.
I have a TMO BB7730 which I use as my primary phone, when I go on business trips I would like to use it as a GPRS/EDGE modem for my laptop, but I know that this is not possible.
To resolve this I have a Nokia 6230 which works great as a Bluetooth modem for my laptop, BUT NOT WITH MY SIM IN IT!!!
I know that tmoble BB data plan is different that the unlimited internet data plan, but seeing as they are both unlimited data I was hoping that there might be a way around the restrictions that are in place.
NOTES: I am not talking about using my sim for internet in a treo, Ipaq or other things of the sort I would like to use it in my Nokia 6230 and a Bluetooth modem for my laptop.
Also I am using webclient not bes.
Thanks in advance

I have the BB plan attached to my main tel # and it has unlimited data through the wap.voicestream.com APN. I can actually take my BB SIM out of my BB, put it in my Treo650, and download e-mail and surf through GPRS.
Have you tried your BB SIM in your Nokia ?? There is also a way you can set up a USB modem connection through your BB. BUT, it is painfully slow, almost to the point of being useless (ie... a 50K e-mail takes 10-15 minuted to download.

I am mostly familiar with AT&T Wireless/Cingular, but I may be able to help.
Try specifying the apn. Most rate plans, because they only have one active apn, don't need one specified, the switch can use the single apn as the default.
But on aws/cingular -- and I would assume tmo -- a second apn is also needed to open a hole to the rim network, on aws/cingular it is blackberry.net.
When there are more than one apn provisioned, the switch won't know which to use. Do you get a ppp error? Perhaps 679?
In any case, to specify an apn you need to add an initialization string to the modem. In XP go to Control Panel | Phone and Modem Options. Select the modem tab, highlight your phone (it may something like GPRS modem) and click Properties.
In the modem properties, click the advanced tab and in the Extra initialization commands field put AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com" (or I believe tmo also uses internet2.voicestream.com, but like I said, I'm more familiar with cingular).

well guys thanks for the help, I was actually able to figure it out and am currently using the working wireless with my NK 6230 as a bluetooth modem.
it turns out that internet2 and 3 are closed but wap with my blackberry plan has all ports open and can be used for generall access, and secure sites.
I am also getting some good edge speed at Islip airport....
