Gif animations VX8000 worked out

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

h'okay so....ive done some messing around today after getting my cable, and have found out a couple of things on the LG VX 8000. It seems to me that gif anims are capped at 2.5 fps and a maximum of 10 frames with a size of 176x184 (which is screen size minus banners)- this was discovered by someone else in another thread (i forget who, if i see it again or you come in, get your credit where its due)...You can tell when the phone resizes an image by the horrible aliasing produced by it. Transparency doesnt seem to affect the framerate, nor does the amount of pixels rendered, because each pixel of the 176X184 screen is rendered each frame. As far as i can tell, anything above and beyone these parameters makes the processor do extra stuff (like resizing the image, or skipping extra frames) which slows down the anims quite a bit, to the point where they can stop. I had earlier posted that gifs would start of and gradually get slower and stop, but when the correct settings are applied, they keep going even when the backlight turns off.

If anyone has anything to add, or if you have found something contrary to my findings plz let me know!...

if you would like to see what kind of stuff I used to test all this out, here are some gif animations i used/made:

gifs

*edit* ok im pretty sure i just figured out the size of the front lcd is 128X145 (minus banner). whole front lcd is listed as 128*160, and i counted the banner's pixels (it was really hard hehe)

how do you load them on the phone? whenever I overwrite a file with bitpim with one of your gifs the phone doesnt recognize the file

oh yeah
whenever you overwrite a picture file, you cant rename the extension, and the phone interprets the pic based on the extension. therefore, you need to already have a gif on there to overwrite if you are uploading a gif.

how do i get a gif on there? the phone saves in jjpg doesnt it?

Posted by: qwertykd

oh well you gotta get a gif from someone or something like the matrixm website www.matrixm.com anything free will do, it doesnt matter just as long as its a .gif you can overwrite with another.gif

looks good, works well

hmm....it seems i got a little too excited and overlooked something....I had previously said the gif animations would not slow down and stop, but it seems that at the time, i had my phone plugged in either charging or using bitpim. It seems that these actions have a "keep alive" function where the cpu is constantly recieving packets or something, making the animations play back at full speed. But when you unplug the phone, they return to slowing down after a few seconds. I hope i can figure soemthing out about this...

Plz post if you have any ideas or have already figured something out
