hey guys, when i was in italy i took my mpx220 with me. Since it was locked I had to call up cingular, and tell them im gonna be in italy so unlock it there. When i was in italy (all over the country from north to south) they had three different services..."Vodafone IT, I TIM, and I WIND" and everyone of these services listed the city that i was in ON THE HOME SCREEN, IN REAL TIME! It updated it self, so when i was in venice, it said VENEZIA, and in rome it said ROMA, and in Milan it said MILANO, and so on and so forth.

My question is why doesnt it do that here? Like say Los Angeles or New York?

It placed it on the normal homescreen right where it said text messages, and it moved the text message thingy on the home screen a bit down...

im just too curious why it doesnt do it in the states.

Ohh btw...when we were in italy, no matter what city i was in i had FULL BAR, EVERYWHERE...even driving through tunnels, or through raw country sides inbetwen mountains...full bar...the quality was ten times cleaner than cingular...

Thats really cool! I wish we had that kind of stuff in North America too!
Especially the signal strength and quality

in the UK and america I think it shows you the dialing code for that area its the same thig just some of Europe transmit the city or town rather than the dial code. you can switch it on or off go to setting click on phone click on channels tick enable channels.

its as simple as that what is braodcast is up the service provider as I said you'll more than likely get just the area code.

I've never had ANYTHING like that display on my homescreen. I'm with Cingular and everyone knows how they cripple everything so they may not be allowing the information to pass, but the plugin is there.

Does anyone have this working in the US?

What you may be referring to is a message that I receive when I'm overseas that communicates the network that I'm roaming on. It shows up as a notification on my homescreen. I don't think US carriers do this in the USA, so I doubt this message will occur. I have an unlocked MPX220, and have taken this phone all over the world, and haven't seen anything other than this type of message show up on my phone.
