mpx220 searching tower service

This is an odd question I know.
But;
I cancelled my service w/ cingular. I paid the etf.

I want to just use the mpx220 as a pda w/ out phone service(basically a "organizer-addressbook"), I need to be on a strict budget & save as much $ as possible, hence this approach.
At first this worked (for about 2 weeks). On the home screen where the screen would normally say "cingular and the date, it instead would say "No Service and the date, time.

Now instead of just saying "no service" after about 2 minutes it says "Denied, searching..."
which to me means my battery is going to run down fast due to the phone searching for cell service.
Any ideas on how to stop the phone from searching for cell service?

I found when I go into "network setting" I get;
CURRENT NETWORK
searching...
NETWORK SELECTION
automatic
I can't change the automatic, if I could switch it to manual or something that would probably fix my trouble.

push (not hold) the power on/off button. This will bring up your quick list. Select Flight Mode.

Done.

dude, I can see why they call you the Kid, because you are goooood!

Thanks, you must have read the instructions, I've been looking for that flight mode stuff for along time, too bad this version of windows doesn't have a "Help" file like the desktop operating system. But in reality I never thought of putting it into flight mode to solve this problem. thanks again!

Since you paid the ETF, you should try to get them to unlock it for you (assuming it's locked like the later ones have been). You're going to have to at some point if you want to use the phone on T-Mobile (which is worth considering).

Glad that worked for you. I used to carry around a PPC just for the contacts and calendar and once I got my MPx220, I'm proud to say I don't use my PPC at all anymore. So, I know where you're coming from!

Good luck...

p.s. I'm pretty sure I read about that Quick List thing here at Howard Forums in a thread a long time ago. I'm not very good about reading instructions until I've already broken something.
