Anyone know when or if these are gonna be supplied by cingular? If not, are they phones that i could buy from nokia themselves or ebay and be able to work with cingular?

If they pick up either, I would think that they would pick up the 6270, since it's already quad-band.

6270 will be amazing; it will be the first nokia that we don't have to wait on cingular/nokia for due to the 850mhz band, since it will be quadband. As soon as it is released internationally, we can order it online and have it work! I'm excited.

yeah, i will probably buy it the moment it's available online. i don't plan on waiting for cingular to release it.

Do you guys thnk it would be a step down to go to the 6270 from my nokia 6620?

I've got a phone upgrade available now... though i'm not sure how that works exactly... can anyone explain?

feature wise, i think the 6270 is better, but i guess some will say the 6620 has the better OS/interface (Symbian aka series 60).

it means you can get a new phone at new subscriber price from Cingular, but you have to sign a new 2 year contract.

What interface does the 6270 have and is it in any way similar to the series 60?

it's a series 40 phone, but i think nokia has or will tweak/enhance the interface.

I've read that some people prefer the series 40 to the series 60, claiming the series 40 was much more user friendly, and faster, without as many problems... is this true?

series 40 is equal to the saying what you see is what you get.

s60 has expandability. therefore, you sacrifice simplicity for a more indepth menu system.

Yes, the 6270 is a Series 40 phone. I just want to point out that it uses Series 40 Third Edition. From Nokia's site...

>>
Series 40 Platform 3rd Edition extends J2ME support, implements CLDC 1.1 and MIDP 2.0, and expands on the provision of messaging, mobile media, and Bluetooth technology APIs with support for FileConnection and personal information manager (PIM) (JSR 75), as well as Mobile 3D Graphics (JSR 184).

Well as long as the series 40 file structure is set up like the series 60, it supports bluetooth, mp3 ringtones, mp3 ringtone per phonebook entry, and picture caller ID, and customizable themes, i'll be happy with it, cause thats pretty much all i use my phone for...

I"ve been reading more about the phone and I really hope these phones comes to cingular... if they dont, i may just buy one anyway through nokia... If i do buy through nokia, will it have a slot for my sim card? And will it work through cingulars service? the phone needs to be gsm 850, correct? the 6280 is a 900 mhz band.. that one wont work, right? if the 6280 wouild work, i'd buy it instead. anyone have any input that can help me out with these questions?

yes, all GSM phones have a slot for the SIM no matter where you buy it from. it will work with Cingular, but you will have to input the correct settings to get MEdia Net and MMS working. voice, voicemail, and text messaging will work once you put in your SIM card.

6280 is a UMTS 2100/GSM 900,1800,1900 phone. it will work, but your coverage wont be as good because it doesnt have 850mhz.

MAYBE they will make a UMTS1900/GSM850,1800,1900 version for cingular once cingular launches UMTS (crosses fingers).

So i COULD get the 6280, but in america, my coverage may be weak due to the lack of the 850 band? how weak? would it still be worth it to get the 6280, even with the weak coverage, or would i then just basically have a fancy paperweight? Also, what is this UMTS you speak of?

Everyone has preferences. I've been thinking about going S60 so I ordered a 7610 to test out. It is taking a while to get used to. There are some things I like better about S60 and there are some things I definitely don't. Part of this may be a learning curve.

I'm very interested in the 6270 regardless because it has 850 and a 2mp cam. Unfortunately it is a little heavier than I would like which is another gripe I have about smartphones too. So I'm still undecided and will probably go back to my 6230 for the time being. Maybe I'll just switch to TMo and get the k750i. I don't really need all the customization afforded by special apps.

how bad your service will be without 850 will depend on your specific area. some areas have a lot of 850 coverage, some areas have very little.

UMTS is a 3rd generation wireless technology that Cingular is about to launch. it has much faster data speeds than what EDGE offers currently.

Ahh, i gotcha.. well, unless UMTS effects my Multimedia messaging and text messaging speeds, then i'll have no need for it.

You guys know if the series 40 3rd gen is customizable with themes, like my 6620 is? and can i also download 3rd party apps, like vNES to play nintendo on?
