Yet Another Black Razr or 6230

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I have a family plan. My roommate is going to port their number over from Verizon and I am going to add them to my family plan. We have four days to do this transaction. At the Cingular store the Black Razr is $199 and the 6230 is $150. I am going to get the new phone and they are going to take my V551. They don't really care about phones just as long as they work. I am leaning toward the Razr but after reading some of the threads about the Razr having white screens and assorted other problems I am kind of hesitate. If you get a phone from the Cingular Store how many days do you have to return or exchange it if there is a problem with the phone? I got my V551 from Best Buy when I signed up for family plan so I have not had any dealing with a Corp. Store.

The V3 is a stable phone in my opinion. I have both the Cingular silver and unbranded black version I have yet to have any of the issues that some people are saying that they are having.

I got an unlocked Cingular black V3 the other day from a reseller/unlocked here in Atlanta and though I've only had it a few days I'm really pleased with it. What it sacrifices in features (EDGE, card slot mainly) it makes up for in size and form factor. It's really nice having such a small phone with the features it does have. The 6230 is a nice phone and does have EDGE, so if you think you might want to do a lot of wap surfing the 6230 is probably a better choice. My previous phone had EDGE and the difference without it on the Razr is obvious.

i think if you want a cool looking phone and don't use many features go with the razr, i just saw a black one yesterday and it was a pretty cool looking phone

i personally have a 6230 b/c i use the mp3 player everyday at work , along with the fm radio, and when i go on car trips i can watch movies or episodes of a show on it.

what you have to understand with the 6230 is that if you do use these features you're going to have to shell out a few more $$$ for a good MMC and card reader
in my case i have a 1GB MMC with 175 mp3's on it, 2 music videos, and 3 episodes of family guy and south park.

Is that a 6230b that you can watch video as well?

yeah just use nokia pc suite to convert any video file into a .3gp file and load it onto ur mmc card
i use a card reader, much faster

and i just watch music video's or clips at work

i usually watch whole movies or shows on my 6620 w/ smartmovie
6230 resolution can be kinda crappy.

Basically, if you're wanting a cool PHONE, flashy and all, but mainly for making/taking calls, go for the black RAZR, it's hard to argue that it's not sweet (looking). If you want a true gadget that can do nearly anything, without going smartphone, go for the 6230. For such a small phone, you've got BT, a decent VGA camera, and a MMC, whcih you can get a 1GB for under $80, then put MP3s on it, use your phone like an iPod, or like Chonga said, convert movies/tv shows and watch them right there on your phone. It all depends on what you're going to use your phone for.

I think I am going to go with the Black Razr from the Corp Store and then later order the 6230 off of the internet. I really want to have both eventually.

if you want both, that's the right way to go about it. Though I would suggest going to Sam's Club for the RAZR, it'll save you money. With a new activation like that, you can get the black RAZR for 147.87 on a 2-year, 187 on a one year. And if you do the 2-year, you can also get a Plantronics M2500 BT headset and the RAZR for 155.87 total. Heck of a deal for a $200 phone and a $50 headset. You don't need a Sam's Membership to get in, either.

Hey does sam's club do contract extensions ? and if so do they same prices apply or are they only new activiation prices?

Posted by: iqwertyi

Is buying it locally better offset the freebie price online?

Who covers the phone if something happens to it? If it's the original dealer I bought the phone, I think I need to go check out what Sams Club has to offer.

I already have a family plan I just adding my roommate to my plan. Roommate will be porting their number from verizon. They are going to take my V551 and I am getting the new phone. Will Sam's sell the Razr to someone for $147.87 that is being added to an all existing family plan? I hope so!!! Does anyone know if they will?

Best Buy had the Black Razr for $99 each with a 2 yr contract.

I think that ALL (re)sellers have the exact same limitations - NEW service only for these prices. I'm not sure how you can make this LOOK like new service to get a low price phone.

Good Luck!

At Sam's Club, it's 147.87 for a brand new line, be it primary or add-a-line, on an upgrade it's $30 more, 177.87, still cheaper than corp.

Hey man thanks for the FYI you just saved me over $50 bucks. I checked with two Sams Clubs already and they both were sold out of the Black Razr. Will check with some more stores this evening. By chance I called Best Buy and they have the phone in stock for $149.99 (this in store purchase price not internet price.) I thought that I had to deal with Corp. store. Thanks again!!!

Dont buy the Razr, even the pretty black one. As usual Motorola ignored customers and went with the good old tedious long winded menu structure.

The Nokia UI is so intutive its the wisest choice.

Dont take my word for it though. Try one. People who disagree are just forcing themselves to like it because it looks good!

they get inventory on Thursdays, call them and ask them to check their receiving (it should show up later today) they can see if they are going to get any black RAZRs in, I'm sure they wouldn't mind holding onto one for you or calling you when it's in. I wouldn't.

I am now the proud owner of a sweet Black V3. It is a hot little phone!!! Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Now I will begin shortly my hunt for a good deal on a 6230b. I think I feel a phone addiction coming on!
