Cingular, Nokia 6230 and AIM

I just got a 6230 from Cingular and in the box was a piece of paper saying that it does not support AIM and that the AIM option had been removed from the phone. However it's clearly on the phone.
Now, if I try to connect with a bad password, I'm told correctly I've entered a bad password. If I try to connect with the correct one, it just says connecting .. and sits there and never connects (though Trillian on PC my detects that I've logged in from another location).
If I go to aim.aol.com and go to the mobile media area and try to activate the phone, first I notice that the 6230 isn't listed in their dropdowns. I select "other phone" and also tried 6220 and it then says it sent a code to my phone and I will need to enter it. My phone never receives the code. Just wondering if this is why the piece of paper says it's not supported or it's something else. Thanks!
