Help needed to find unlocked phone for family friend

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Okay, I recently met with a family friend and she said that she needed a new phone. She's currently got an unlocked Moto A1000 from 3(UK), but is very annoyed with it, especially the touchscreen. She does love having T9 for text, but can't access wap sites.
Now, she primarily uses the phone for business. This means that she's making 4-5K minutes worth of calls a week and texting heavily(I'd like to add that she has a pretty sweet grandfathered deal from AT&T).
She would also like a "cool" phone. She doesn't want a Blackberry, because she doesn't want to change her plan until she absolutely has to (so, about two years from now). We stopped by a phone store in Indiatown in Chicago and she really liked the SE K750 and the Nokia 6260.
Any help that I might get would be greatly appreciated. I don't have very much experience with Cingular's network and services, and really couldn't come up with a phone that fit her requirements off the top off my head.
So, to sum up, her requirements are:

Non-touchscreen
Lots of battery life
Easy texting interface
WAP access
Works everywhere that Cingular has coverage

Thanks in advance, everyone!

How is the Razr's battery life?

Among the best. Anyway, if she gets a phone, make sure it supports the 850Mhz and 1900MHz band. With the RAZR, she wouldn't have to worry about bands, because it supports all the GSM bands that are used in the world.

Doesn't the A1000 support WAP? Seems like the Moto UK site says it does... perhaps she just needs to configure it for Cingular Blue/mMode?

Re: RAZR battery life, I wouldn't class it as "among the best". With current f/w I get 3.5-4.5 days with very light usage. Heavy users are going to get much less....

If texting is her life, look at the Nokia 6820 or similar phone with a better keypad/keyboard. Nokia's are notoriously easy to remote unlock for the DIY-er or via one of the fine vendors on HoFo.

Yeah, for Cingular make SURE the phone has both GSM850 and GSM1900 or she may be unhappy with coverage....

She originally did have a 6820, but hated it. She felt that it wasn't durable enough. Another problem with the A1000 was that she was unable to use it while it was plugged into her car charger. I don't know if that was a problem that her phone had or if it was a problem with the model in general. Either way, I know that she was very unhappy with that. She simply cannot afford to not have access to her phone at any time.
She also doesn't like having to unlock the keypad every single time when making menu selections during a phone menu (i.e., for every option, she has to unlock the keypad, press the required number, listen to the new menu, and repeat).

I don't know then - the 6820 always looked cool to me, but I've not really used one. I suppose one of the sliding keyboard PDA phones like Siemens SX66 maybe? Everyone I know with the Treo 650 loves theirs. There's an LG with a sliding keyboard and some Moto A series too, right?

No idea about unlocked versions of any of those.....

Good luck!

WOW!

I just figured it up, and there's about 10k of minutes per week period. When does she eat and sleep?? Let's just hope the whole "cell phone radiation gives you cancer" thing isn't true!!

p.s. i'd go w/the razr, but sounds to me like she needs whatever has the best battery!!!
