Unlocking Phone and Other Questions

Will This Link Really Help Me Unlock My Phone?[/URL] I have a cingular and t-mobile plan. I want to get a treo 650 soon and will be using it with my t-mobile plan. I was thinking of buying my treo directly from a cingular store. A couple of questions:

Can I call cingular and ask them for an unlock code and then use it for t-mobile?

I asked a couple of questions to an eBayer about a treo 650. He answered some of my questions but also said the phone he is selling is "Bluetooth DUN Enabled, (Bluetooth DUN is unavailable on the Cingular Treo 650)" Does this mean that if i buy a treo 650 directly from a cingular store, it wont be DUN enabled? Or do I have to set it up myself?

Will I have to reconfigure the settings for sms and mms?

Will my t-mobile phone work essentially the same as the cingular version?

Also, which treo do I buy, I read somewhere that there is a camera-less version, I want the one with the camera, is there only one model with a camera?

Sorry for being a newb, im just used to my P910i and setting everything up myself, I gotta try to sell it

Yes,you can get the phone from Cingular and then get it unlocked from them ,your other alternatives would be to use an unlocking service or purchase unlocked to begin with-but since you are a Cingular customer-having them unlock it should not be a problem. When you purchase it from Cingular ,I'm not sure if they will try to require that you get a data plan-since you plan to use it on T-Mobile,I'm assuming the question is no-I would tell them that you plan to use it only as a telephone/PDA,no email,no data etc.

To my knowledge there is not a version of the 650 without a camera yet-there is a cameraless version of the 600.

I believe that after applying the T650 Wireless Updater for Cingular Wireless (should be a link on the Palm website),BT DUN is enabled-but it is not enabled out of the box.I'm not sure if that is the updater that you should apply or the unlocked version (once you have the phone unlocked).

It will work essentially the same.Hope that helps.

Please read the rules in regards to asking unlocking questions.

As for a cameraless Treo 650, I know Sprint offers one but I don't know about any other carrier.

Cingular won't unlock any phone until the one or two-year contract that came with that phone ends. T-Mobile will unlock a phone after you've been a customer for at least 90 days.

Can anyone verify this? do i need the cingular firmware upgrade from palm or will i need an unlocked version of the firmware? If I get a cingular branded treo and unlock it, will i need what version of the firmware will i need..cingular or unlocked?

Also, can anyone tell me if I will have to reconfigure the settings for sms and mms?
