Infuriatingly annoying QPST issues - 8940

Jesus. So I finally get a data cable off of eBay, a crappy $3 eforcity one, but a cable nonetheless. I find no less than 4 driver sets online, before setting myself on the Curitel ones (I even waded through pages of Korean to get the brand new v4.22 ones off of the Curitel site). I get QPST up and running, and everything is good.

So I start my long and perilous journey through the EFS, trying to accomplish feats no less great than finding a ##CODE list, starting to map out BREW 2, and ending world hunger, when suddenly, my connection drops. Great.

So I restart the EFS Browser and the QPST Server, only to find that my connection drops again, 30 seconds after I connect. This does not bode well for malnourished children all over the world. I disconnect the phone and the USB cable for a third time and repeat again. This time QPST is giving me the dreaded "No Phone" error that people keep posting about again and again.

Once I've figured out that I'm not retarded and not selecting the wrong port for the phone (people do tend to do that, it seems) and I have the right drivers installed, I go to ##PORT to see what's up.

Well:

diag: USB DATA
data: NULL PORT

Interesting. I set diag to USB DIAG and data to USB DATA.

Three seconds later, I find myself back at ##PORT, setting diag to USB DIAG and data to USB DATA.

Another few seconds later and I'm doing the same exact thing again.

There are a lot of people on this board (and other boards, judging by google) who are reporting the eBay cables flaking out on them like this. It took me forever to even get QPST to recognize my phone at all, much less keep a stable connection for more than 30 seconds. I'd bet their phones are most likely doing the same thing.

I don't see this problem with BREWSKY, and on the rare occasions that I have gotten bitpim to work, the phone doesn't exhibit this behavior either.

Anyone have any ideas about how to fix this sort of thing?
