How can I tell if the MPX220 has been unlocked? I just received my replacement phone from Moto and it is giving me the same error as before "Invalid SIM", this does it on all the AT&T SIMs I have.
One Moto Rep said that the Moto phones will support a non-Cingular SIM but only for a limited time? But I can not confirm this.
I purchased the original phone from eBay and was told it was unlocked, now that I have a new replacement I am starting to wonder if it has not been unlocked. I dont mind purchasing the unlock information, but I would like to know if the phone is unlocked or not. Is there away to find out?

Well if you can't use ur ATT SIM then its locked. If it was unlocked it would accept any SIM.

In other phones, I have seen "Invalid SIM" when a SIM wasn't registered with a carrier. That is, if it is a cancelled SIM or it is a SIM that has never been configured to work on an account.
I don't know if that is the case with the MPx220, but I have seen "Invalid SIM" on my Nokia 6620 and Sony Ericsson P900 for this reason.

You have a point....I forgot all about the "Invalid SIM" message you get when your SIM is not activated. Glad you pointed that out....

So then whats the quick way to determine if a phone is unlocked?
I want to know if my V3 is unlocked.
So If I take a sim from another carrier I would need to call them to see if my phone is unlocked?
My Son has a Silver V3 on T Mobile and wants my Black V3 on Cingular.
Is such possible with out losing funtionality?
Thanks

Ok this is simple.....just take the t-mobile SIM and put it in the Cingular v3...if it asks for a code then its SIM locked. If it asks for a SIM PIN then the phone is SIM locked to your SIM only, you need to disable that to see if the phone is truly "SIM Unlocked, meainging it will work with any GSM SIM". Do the same with your SIM in his v3, again if it asks for a code then its SIM locked.

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say your sim circuitry is fried on your phone or you have a firmware problem. That error makes it seem like to me IMHO that it can't read the SIM, not that it is SIM locked.

Invalid SIM is the message you will get when you put a non activated SIM in your phone.

Oo duh I guess I wasn't paying attention to the activation status of his SIMs =) Yup that would definitely do it. I used a deactivated ATT SIM to check if my MPxs were locked. If they were locked, it would ask for a subsidy code. If not, it would say invalid SIM.
