You'll need an 8900/8910 cable, which you can get for $8-$10 shipped, from ebay (just do a title search for 8910 cable), BitPim or QPST, and the Curitel drivers bundled with PC Sync. |
Easy to replace tones, hard to add new even if you duplicate the file changes VM makes when you buy a new tone.

I've attached my CameraState.dat for anyone who wants it. The extension was changed to .txt so I could upload it. Now that I've contributed my bit anyone having success uploading java applications(games)? |

I don't mean to sound stupid but I don't want to waste 9 bucks+shipping on something that won't work. My father owns at handheld computer that uses MCIA (which seems to be the same as these phones use) at his work yet it won't plug into my phone (the MCIA is too small). I don't know if this information is of any use I just thought I'd add it. |

. I'll probably post more details tomorrow after I write a little app to help format the files so the phone will run them.

It's quite possible that 0x03 has no special meaning and invalid setting for this byte will have the same results but I picked 0x03 and it worked so I thought I should share. I did not bother testing further as I was much more interested in getting java apps to work and I am pleased to say that right now my phone is running a free breakout clone

Will this wire work with the 8915? The site says it works with 8900 audiovox phones. I'm a relative newb to this stuff. |

StrayTanGenT, I think it should work but I can't say for sure. The cable I'm using was intended for a Kyocera Slider SE44 and has a Prolific 2303 chip to convert from usb to serial. I'm already a day late with my promise of more info on games but uploading midlets is breaking my phone, all sound stops working, with distressing regularity so I won't be posting any files until I have that issue sorted out. |

| 3. Make sure the Phone is OFF and plug the cable into the phone and into the computer. At this point the phone should turn on automatically (don't open the phone). |

Attempting any of this will probably break your phone, don't blame me, etc. Create a new folder under /I/ringers Generate a new content.dat, looking at the default ringers the format is identical but the last parameter should be 0 instead of 1 Rename the audio file to suite.mp3 Upload the content.dat and suite.mp3 to the new folder Delete /I/ringers/folder.dat Reboot phone while crossing fingers and praying. I'm assuming that contentUrl.utf is not necessary for ringers since jarUrl.utf and jadUrl.utf do not seem to be needed for java midlets. |
Well I will wait until Locke or someone else can figure it out and sucesfully add ringtones.
Ok Best Buy is so cool if you get the extended warrenty you can return your phone as many times as you want in one year! Witin 2 hours of bricking my phone I have another one.

and even when I did screw up things in the games folder it never rendered the phone unbootable so I wouldn't worry too much if I was you. Worst case is probably you lose all sound have to restore the original games folder.

Once you do get in there, if you'll read above, I am looking for someone to upload their ENTIRE, default ringtone directory for me. If you might do so, I'd appreciate it greatly. :-) |

Sometimes when I try to view the filesystem, it just hangs and never connects. It may work better if I connect with PC Sync first, but it might just be a coincidence. Hope this helps. |
