New '3.5mm Adaptor' Mod - K750/W800

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: rabvtec

Well, I've done the mod that keeps the mic for handsfree, done the short wired one with no mic .. so I thought what next? - how about a 3.5mm jack built into the FastPort connector!!

Well, here's the result of my toil and sweat .. whatdya think? If interested, give me a few days to put together a 'How-To' ...

I hope the attachment works!

WOW!
Could ya do one for me??
Looks great...how did you build it??

@omaha - thx!

Jeez, it took me a while .. deciding each step as I went along. I started with an idea in my head and didnt really deviate from that - just worked out how to overcome each stage as it presented itself!

I'm sorry the image is so small - I'm not sure how to attach an image here. I took the images with my digital camera at 640x480 but the kb is something like 200+ kb for each one I reduced this by reducing the size with Photoshop but it didn't emlarge on the post .. any ideas for my future images?

u can use this host to host ur picture and post it here .

www.tinypic.com

and please show us some bigger picture !!! and a HOW-TO guide would be awsome !! thx

another good image hosting website:

www.photobucket.com

only problem w/ tinypic is that they assign you a random url, which you have to remember, cuz you can't look it up...on photobucket, u actually have an account, and can see all your previous pics...useful if looking up older pics to re-post...hope this helps!

**RIGHT PPL!** Here's my link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=19I0XAHO - let me know if it works .. noob at this .. uploading large files that is! It's about 3.5MB in size so please be patient .. you won't be sorry!

Guys, I'm sorry, but I'm not getting in to edit my posts for some reason at the moment. Here's an update ..

You can either download from the previous link or this new one: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=30DSILF8 or visit: http://www.se-nse.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1177 for an instant 'How-To' thread.

I found the se-nse forum a lot easier to handle for someone who hasn't done this before ... me!

Any questions? ... fire away!

i cant get the stupiod connector tp pry out of the holder like you did.. but i did manage to screw it up.. so now i have to buy a new one... i think the one that comes with the phone.. is very different from yours, because mine on the inside has all these corners while yours has a supporter and is smooth..

Posted by: rabvtec

@ Lumps - I've just been speaking with a couple of guys over at M-R and they've stated the same as you. This is news to me .. so SE has/had two different 'methods' of assembling the FastPort connectors, obviously! Typical large corporation twaddle!

I bought a spare from: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Sony-Ericsson...Qc mdZViewItem and can confirm that it will definitely seperate for modding.

I hope this helps .. let me know!

Bump...

Ok, so next up is the "internal headphone" jack.... Who wants to be the guinnea pig

Posted by: rabvtec

Hey Brendan .. you been lurking at se-nse? I've been kinda discussed the possibility over there.

I'm still considering the implications of this ...
a)finding space in an already tight chassis
b)'hotwiring' the necessary pins, internally, from the FastPort to the jack

My concern is that, the K750/W800 require the phone to 'sense' that it has the handsfree connected when using headphones. PROBLEM - by hotwiring, it'll continually sense this ...

Work in Progress!

I new to mucking around with the innards of electrical goods so forgive me if I ask stupid questions.
When I took the rubber off my jack the wires came away from the two connector prong things I've got the wires all soldiered up to the fast port part but can't figure out what wires to attach where on the jack I've got copper, green, blue and red and there are only two pins.

what goes where??

P.s. sorry for the blurry pic

Posted by: rabvtec

@Ki0te - OK, if you've followed the colour-coding correctly, what you need to do is:

Solder the RED wire to one of the prongs
Solder the GREEN wire to one of the prongs
Solder the COPPER wire to the body of the jack
Isolate the BLUE (from what I remember, this is the one for the mic - not needed).

I hope this helps ..

Hmmm, these were time affected - if there is no activity for 30 days I think it dies. Here's a permanent link: http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=1177
