Moto V265 Ringtones

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this question, but if not, let me know please.

I just bought a V265 and wanted to transfer an mp3 ringtone to it. I want a ringtone that isn't available through easy edge (Dave Matthews Band) and this is the only reason I'm trying to work around it. I've tried sending it to my phones email through MMS, but I was unable to download the file because it was an invalid file type (renamed an mp3 as a mid...roughly 250kb in size, low quality audio). If anyone knows of a website I should check out or if Mobile Phone Tools would work, I'd greatly appreciate any ideas or just a point in the right direction. Thanks!

On a side note, I've been reading this forum for a couple of months now and just recently created a login name. Sorry my first post is requesting information and not helping someone else, I'll be sure to be more helpful in the future. Now you can all get back to off topic threads! haha

It's funny that we post like hell until someone actually asks a question and then the board gets quiet

The V262 can't take MP3 ringtones, even with MPT. It won't play them. The V265 is essentially the same phone so I'm fairly certain it won't play them either, but if I'm wrong someone please do enlighten me....

Try converting the MP3 to WAV (mono format - very important, stereo format won't convert to qcp properly, 16kHz, 16bit), using a program like Goldwave (www.goldwave.com), WavePad (my choice - www.nch.com.au/wavepad/), or AudaCity (audacity.sourceforge.net). Then use Qualcomm's PureVoice Converter (http://www.cdmatech.com/solutions/p...ce_download.jsp to convert it to qcp format. You only need the Converter, not the other files. Then email to your phone.

Keep the Faith,

Lance

Thanks for the response Lance. I'll give it a try as soon as I get home from work. I'll let you all know how it goes. I'm hoping that the conversion to qcp will work!

We haven't quite figured out if Lance is actually really a human yet. We think he might still be a robot programmed to know everything there is to know about the wireless industry

Posted by: USCellMainer

Apparently Lance IS a robot programmed to know everything there is. I converted the wav file to qcp and then renamed to *.mid, then emailed it to my phone through mms and it worked perfectly. Thank you very much for all the help guys!

Posted by: tearsonurcheek

qcp is the native format of most, if not all current CDMA phones. It's the format that voice memos are saved as. By the way, you shouldn't have to rename those files before emailing them. You don't on LG's. Of course, being a Motorola...

Keep the Faith,

Lance

Just needed to finish up that sentence for you

When I sent the files to my phone using the *.qcp extension, my phone was able to play the audio file, but it did not allow me to apply it as a ringtone. Once I renamed it to a *.mid, it worked just fine. Not sure why I had to rename it, but it works so I'm not complaining! Thanks again Lance for the help.

And in other news, its not an LG, but then again, I guess that means I wont have to worry about sending it back because of an LCD issue!

Yes, I did just ask for your help then crap all over your LG loving arse. haha

You're funny!!! At least I can reliably charge my phone, though!

But, in 2 years of using LG (my 4400, and now my 6100), I've had to send it off *once*. Why? I wanted to update my 4400 from version 7 to version 10 of the software (my choice, but it did fix a couple of minor issues), and for some reason, the store's computer wouldn't recognize my phone. Something wrong with my data port. Don't know what caused that, but LG swapped it out, no problems. My Motorola? *Five* warranty swaps for charging issues. In just *four* months.

Keep the Faith,

Lance

Well played Lance, well played!

I do like the style of the LG's and I think the camera on the VX6100 is vastly superior to the V265's. I purchased the V265 because up here in Maine, reception is at a premium. Unfortunately I have to deal with the charging port on the moto to get the benefit of improved reception of the V265. The LG at my home generally shows "No Service" and the moto is constantly between 1 and 2 bars. For areas with great coverage and where reception is fairly standard throughout, I would not hesitate to recommend the LG. However, in our market, I usually steer most customers towards the Moto's as they seem to receive better coverage.

Have you heard differently as far as reception quality on the different models we currently offer? If you have, I'd love to pass it on. Until the perfect phone comes out (great reception, reliability, and style), customers have to weigh the pro's and con's against eachother. If only the 6255 were out!!

Yeah, I want that phone, too. As far as reception goes, I do admit that I have the advantage of living in a blanket coverage area. But even in a fringe area like the edge of the Joplin market, I had no problems. When I lost uscc signal, my phone latched right on to the Alltel or Verizon signal (depending on who the roaming partner was in the next market). I've not been in a truly weak area, so if I was, it might affect my decision on what the best phones are.

Keep the Faith,

Lance

You left out the part that your 5 time claimed phone was the one widely known as the Motorola Abortion :-p

Bias in the media, I tell ya...

Posted by: tearsonurcheek

True. But every single warranty-replacement was due to charging issues. Something that *still* affects most Motorola models out there, GSM and CDMA. How Motorola could justify continuing to use that charging port for another 2-3 years *after* it became widely known as a trouble spot, I'll never know. At least they're *finally* getting the hint and switching to a USB port.

Keep the Faith,

Lance
