Phone Tools Question

Okay I installed Moto Phone tools to be able to put my own ringtones and what not onto my work computer.
Now when I first was connecting my phone it said to be sure your phone is unlocked. I assume that means you have the subsidy lock code and have used it to unlock your phone. Is that the case or should I pay no attention to that?
It just kept rolling over and after about 5 minutes of this I just clicked "Cancel" instead of letting it finish the set up because it said that it was complete, without allowing me to click finish. I then started the app and attempted to connect the phone and it would NOT interact with the phone...It just kept saying "Initializing..." so I finally closed everything out and said to hell with it.
Okay so yeah, anyone seeing anything I did wrong chime in, or if the phone merely needs to be unlocked just let me know. Thanks.

By unlocked I believe they mean the ability for the end user to lock the phone manually or whenever it is powered on so that you have to enter a 4-digit security code. If you were at one point able to successfully connect to the phone and then couldn't, just try unplugging the USB connector, wait a second and then plug it back in - works for me on my RAZR.

Well I just did it today...I gotta tell ya...Sometimes the dumbest things trip me up...
Apparently the only problem was that I had neglected to assign an area code that I would be dialing from...even though I wouldn't be dialing anywhere...But thanks for the reply.
