Alrighty so heres the story, i got a Sidekick II on its way totally unlocked. I want to use the data from Cingular. Does anyone know the settings i'll need to get it up and running? I figured there has to be a way to get htis working.

PS can you download ur own ringers to ur sidekick???

Thanks guys!

The SIDEKICK II 's data features ONLY work on the T-mobile network. It is not possible to access those features on Cingular. Only software developers can download custom ringtones - we the average users cannot.

why is that though, what kind of data are they sending GPRS right?

The data features use special servers from Danger which are only accessible from compatible carriers such as T-mobile.

By an unlocked phone do you mean one with a development key already pre-installed on the device, or just unlocked to work on other networks? If it has the dev. key already installed you can install your own ringtones.

yes and no. While the phone indeed does GPRS networking, it solely uses the carrier's GPRS network to connect to backend servers at Danger that provide data services. The connection is very much like a VPN connection in that the hiptop 'tunnels' to Danger through the carrier's network, but it doesn't make use of the carrier's network for any other purpose. This setup requires that the carrier have a specific network connection to Danger in order for this VPN-like connection to be established. Cingular does not have such a connection, so it's not possible to make the sidekick work in it's full data capacity on a carrier that doesn't support the device.

And the device does not support installing custom ringtones except when purchased through the download catalog, which requires t-mobile's data service.
