Hey there,

Sorry if I posted this on the wrong section, but -
I recently got my USB cable for my Motorola v551 cell phone. The cable includes the software CD. Here is a run down on my computer specs:

- Intel P4 at 1.4GHz
- Intel D850GB Mainboard
- 256 MB RDRAM
- 120GB Western Digital Hard Drive 7200 RPM, 8MB Cache (Where my XP OS occupies)
- 30GB Maxtor Hard Drive 7200 RPM, 2MB Cache (Where my Mandriva OS occupies)
- LG 16X DVD-ROM Drive (equiv. to 48X CD-ROM)
- LG 16X Dual-layer DVD burner

Anyway back to my software situation. I've installed the driver for my phone first of all, then I first attempt to install the first bundle of the MPT. It seems to go through OK, but as for the program, It functions. I don't know what version that I had installed first however. The 2nd step on what I had did is to update MPT to version 2.16. The update went okay, but it suddenly freezes. I've tried Ctrl-Alt-Del to close the application, then rebooted my PC. I then tried to uninstall the application. When I do that this error appeared:

Quote:
>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (439)
PAPP: mobile PhoneTools
PVENDOR: BVRP Software (www.bvrp.com)
PGUID:F18E8A0F-BE99-4305-96A5-6C0FD9D7D999
$7.1.100.1248
@Windows XP Service Pack 2 (2600) IE 6.0.2900.2180

The 2nd window told me that I have to close all the applications and make sure my TEMP folder is empty. I've tried that and then ran the uninstallation process yet again. When I did that, it still displayed the error!

As for the program itself, it functions like the way it should, like for example I can download pictures from my phone and then upload my custom made graphics.

So, people. Do you experienced this problem as well? What steps did you took to remedy the situation? Does updating the program help?

Any urgent (or non-urgent) suggestions will be greatly appreciated. If all else fails, then I would reformat my entire computer, just to remove this application......

When you run Live Update disable any antivirus programs until update is complete. If that does not work disable any firewall you may have.
Also have a look at the MPT forums.

Here's what I did to solve this problem:

I used System Restore to restore my system to an earlier state because of the botched Mobile PhoneTools installation. You might know that System Restore is a feature that allows you to undo any changes made to your Windows XP operating system. When I do that, it successfully restored my system to the way it was. Sorry if this is off-topic, but that's how I solved the problem. Now I'm trying to search for another program - an alternative from MPT.

I'm not sure if my computer is in stable condition, so i'll let you know as problems arise.
